* UE completes series sweep over Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa – Two exciting victories on Saturday saw the University of Evansville softball team earn a road series sweep over Drake at Buel Field. Following a 5-3 win in the opener, the Purple Aces hung on for a 9-7 win in game two.

Evansville earned its first Missouri Valley Conference 3-game series sweep since 2024 when the Aces took three games against Valparaiso. It marked the first conference road sweep for the program since 2019 when Evansville took three games against Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.

Game 1 – UE 5, Drake 3

Brooke Voss’ 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning gave the Purple Aces a 5-3 win in Saturday’s opener. Starting pitcher Kate Ridgway struck out a career-high 11 batters while tossing another complete game. As a team, UE compiled nine hits with Emma McDonald, Maliyah Wilkins, and Niki Bode finishing with two apiece. McDonald added two runs while Voss paced the squad with three RBI.

Wilkins led the top of the second off with a single before advancing to second on a wild pitch and third on a sacrifice by Jess Willsey. Ashtyn Holbrook brought her in with a sacrifice fly to center field. The Bulldogs quickly tied the game with a run in the bottom of the frame, however, the Aces retook the lead in the third. McDonald opened with a single and stole second. With two outs, she scored on a double by Niki Bode.

Drake tied things up with a score in the bottom of the fourth but UE came right back in the fifth. Angela Valentine recorded a leadoff double and scored the go-ahead run until Drake rallied once again with the tying run in the bottom of the inning. Looking to regain the lead, Evansville posted two hits in the sixth with Morgan Adams and Wilkins reaching on singles, but the run was halted on a double play.

After Ridgway retired the side in order to complete the sixth, UE came through in the seventh. Following two quick outs, McDonald extended the inning with a double to bring Voss to the plate. A clutch 2-run home run to left center put the Aces back on top and would prove to be the game-winner. The Bulldogs put two runners on in the bottom of the inning before Ridgway struck out the side to end the game.

Game 2 – UE 9, Drake 7

Evansville took an 8-0 lead in the top of the fifth and looked to put an early end to the game before a furious rally by Drake made things interesting before the Aces held on for a 9-7 victory to secure the series sweep.

A huge start saw UE jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Brooke Voss hit a leadoff single and would score on a double by Niki Bode. Next up was Morgan Adams who homered to right center to make it a 3-0 game. Following a pitching change by the Bulldogs, Jess Willsey hit a home run to right center to cap off the 4-run inning.

Drake had multiple scoring chances over the next handful of innings as they stranded two runners in the bottom of the first before leaving the bases loaded in the third, however, Alexis Tucker kept them off the board each time.

Taylor Howe led off the top of the fifth with a home run to left field while Bode followed with a single. With one out, Eliza Piggott hit a 2-run shot to right center. Willsey followed with her second solo homer of the contest to make it an 8-0 score. Just when it looked like the Aces would cruise to the shutout, the Bulldogs staged a rally. Ava Husak ended the shutout with a 2-run home run as Drake scored four in the bottom of the fifth.

Bode got one of the runs back with a solo shot in the sixth as the score was 9-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Bulldogs plated three runs and looked to do more damage as they loaded the bases with two outs. Kate Ridgway entered the game and picked up the final our on a fly ball to left as she earned the save. Tucker earned the win allowing three runs, two earned, in 4 1/3 innings of work.

The offense erupted for 13 hits including six home runs. Willsey went 3-4 with two solo home runs while Bode had a 3-for-5 day with a solo homer, three runs, and two RBI. Piggott and Howe added two hits apiece.

* Robyn Scherr resigns as UE head women's basketball coach

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville Director of Athletics Dr. Ziggy Siegfried has announced that Robyn Scherr has resigned as head coach of the Purple Aces women’s basketball program to pursue career opportunities outside of collegiate coaching.

Vice President of Sports Consulting at Mammoth (MMTH) Sports Consulting Dr. Kurt Patberg (Kurt.patberg@mmth.co) has been commissioned to assist in a national search for the next head coach.

“We are grateful to Coach Scherr for the contributions she has made to our women’s basketball program. She has recruited and developed talented student-athletes throughout her time at UE,” Siegfried said. “She is a tireless worker who put everything she had into her program. We wish her the best in the future!”

Scherr led the Evansville program to one of its most memorable stretches in recent memory in the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Wins over UIC, Belmont, and Illinois State in a stretch of less than 48 hours gave the Aces their first berth in the conference championship game since 2009. Highlighting the run was the semifinal victory over the Redbirds, ending an 18-game losing streak to the program. UE became the first-ever 10 seed to advance to both the semifinals and championship game of the MVC men’s or women’s tournament.

“It has been a privilege to serve as Head Coach of Evansville Women’s Basketball. I have given my all to our program and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with our student-athletes and be a part of this community,” Scherr said. “The way college athletics continues to evolve has challenged my desire to continue coaching, and after our awesome MVC tournament run, this feels like the right time to step away from college basketball and pour that time and energy into my family.”

“I believe in the important role that college athletics plays in growing our future leaders and being a part of a vibrant campus and community,” she added. “I look forward to championing the Purple Aces as a fan and member of this wonderful Evansville community that I have come to call home. Go Aces!”

Scherr assumed the head coaching position in April of 2021. In her second season at the helm, the Aces put forth an 11-win campaign, marking the highest win tally since the 2016-17 season. Throughout her tenure, Scherr has directed players to a multitude of MVC accolades including Freshman of the Year, All-MVC First Team, All-MVC Second Team, All-MVC Honorable Mention, All-Freshman Team, All-Newcomer Team, and Scholar-Athlete Team.

* University of Evansville, Vincennes University Partner to Create Direct Entry Pathways for Health Professions Students

The University of Evansville (UE) and Vincennes University (VU) have formalized a new partnership designed to create streamlined, direct-entry pathways for students pursuing careers in athletic training and physical therapy.

Through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), students enrolled in VU's Bachelor of Science in Health Care Services Administration with a Pre-Doctor of Physical Therapy/Master's of Athletic Training concentration will have the opportunity to transition directly into UE's graduate programs, including the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). The agreement establishes a clear, structured pathway for qualified students, providing early assurance for admission into competitive graduate programs.

Eligible students may apply for direct entry into UE's MSAT program after their sophomore year by maintaining a minimum 3.50 GPA, completing an interview, and securing a faculty recommendation, with up to five students admitted annually. Students may also pursue direct entry into UE's DPT program, where up to three students per year are selected through a competitive process. In both pathways, students must maintain academic standards to retain their direct entry status.

"At the heart of this partnership is student opportunity," said Dr. Andy Lampkins, Dean of the College of Education and Health Sciences. "We are creating a direct, supportive pathway that allows students to stay focused on their goals while preparing for success in high-demand healthcare fields."

The agreement also includes coordinated academic advising between the two institutions to ensure students complete prerequisite coursework and remain on track for success. Faculty and administrators from both universities will work together to monitor progress and support a seamless transition from undergraduate to graduate study.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment by UE and VU to expand access to high-demand healthcare careers and strengthen the pipeline of highly trained professionals in athletic training and physical therapy.

* UE Club Assists Local Organizations on Southside Transformation Initiative

The Enterprise Business & Innovation Club (EBIC) at the University of Evansville (UE) is creating opportunities for students to engage directly with real-world business challenges while developing leadership and professional skills.

EBIC is designed to promote a comprehensive understanding of modern business practices through workshops, guest speakers, networking opportunities, and project-based learning. The organization fosters a collaborative environment where students gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge that prepares them for their careers.

Currently, EBIC members are partnering with Community One and the Southwest Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC) on Evansville's Southside Transformation project. This research initiative aims to generate actionable insights that support local businesses and guide future economic development efforts. The study focuses on identifying the factors that contribute to small business sustainability and success, examining operational practices, financial strategies, and broader environmental influences within the city's South Side community.

"EBIC empowers students to directly partner with Evansville's industry and community leaders, building meaningful connections and gaining a deeper understanding of how business works in practice," said Dr. Yolanda Obaze, Associate Dean of the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration. "Through this work, students apply their skills to create tangible value and drive positive, communitycentered solutions that support economic growth across the Evansville community."

In addition to research initiatives, EBIC continues to bring industry professionals to campus. The organization recently hosted an interactive entrepreneurship and marketing workshop featuring Sener Kokrusuz, CEO of the American 7s Football League (A7FL). During the session, Kokrusuz shared his background in technology and entrepreneurship, highlighting how he built a nationwide league. Students analyzed the league's digital presence from a Gen Z perspective and explored potential remote internship opportunities.
