Congratulations to Dr. Logan Pant on his publication!
|
|
Dr. Logan Pant, Assistant Professor of Marketing in the Schroeder School of Business, has once again had a journal article accepted for publication by the global publisher Emerald Group. His article, “It’s 5:00 Somewhere: Exploring Consumer Drinking Mindsets,” was published by Emerald Group, headquartered in Leeds, England.
According to Dr. Pant, “This research aims to examine how different types of alcohol lead to various mental states that influence overall decision-making and consumer choices, especially for young consumers. It highlights how learned associations with specific kinds of alcohol consumption create distinct drinking mindsets.”
The article explores how different types of alcohol influence mental states and, in turn, affect decision-making and consumer behavior among young adults. This work contributes to an understudied area of consumer psychology by focusing on learned associations tied to specific types of alcohol rather than solely on intoxication. The research helps clarify mixed findings in prior literature, identifies future research opportunities, and offers practical insights for academics, policymakers, marketers, and consumers seeking to better understand alcohol-related decision-making. These insights may guide branding strategies and deepen understanding of consumer behavior.
The Schroeder School of Business is proud of Dr. Pant’s continued contributions to marketing research and looks forward to the impact of his future scholarly work. |

Racers finish with 88-73 win over Purple Aces
|
|
MURRAY, Ky. – Four players finished in double figures for the University of Evansville men’s basketball team in an 88-73 setback at Murray State on Saturday afternoon inside the CFSB Center.
Leading the way for the Purple Aces was AJ Casey. He scored 19 points while adding four assists and two steals. Josh Hughes recorded 16 points while Leif Moeller and Alex Hemenway registered 15 and 14 tallies, respectively. KJ Tenner and Roman Domon led Murray State with 20 points apiece.
“We competed extremely hard today and I am proud of the character our team has shown,” UE head coach David Ragland explained after the game. “We just need to keep plugging away and finding ways to get better.”
After Murray State jumped out to a 4-0 lead, triples by Alex Hemenway and Josh Hughes gave UE its first lead at 6-4. After AJ Casey knocked down a 3-pointer, Hemenway added his second to put the Aces in front at 12-7 four minutes into the game.
Up 14-10, Evansville reeled off 10 consecutive points to go up 24-10. Triples by Leif Moeller and Hemenway capped the run to give UE its largest lead at the 12:33 mark. Three minutes later, Casey got the job done on both ends of the floor as he forced a steal and converted a dunk to push the advantage back to 14 points – 28-14 – with 9:05 remaining in the half.
Murray State took advantage of three UE turnovers to score nine in a row to get within five inside of eight minutes left. Casey temporarily halted the run with a score before the Racers continued their rally. Javon Jackson hit a 3-pointer to get his squad back within one at 30-29 with 5:19 left until halftime.
Consecutive baskets by Josh Hughes pushed lead back up to five points before MSU pushed back once again. Trailing 36-31 with 3:23 on the clock, the Racers posted the final six points to take a 37-36 lead into the break.
The first basket of the second half belonged to the Racers, however, Hughes connected from downtown to tie the game before a Casey dunk put UE back in front at 41-39. On their ensuing trip down the floor, the Racers regained the lead with a triple at the 16:55 mark. Up 49-48, the took control with a 10-0 run that gave them their largest lead at 59-45 with 10:16 left in the game.
Entering the final three minutes, MSU took a 75-60 while Bryce Quinet quickly cut into it with a triple. The Racers went up by as many as 16 in the final minutes before the game finished with an 88-73 final.
UE outshot the Racers in the contest, hitting 47.5% of its attempts while holding the Racers to 41.7%. It was MSU outrebounding the Aces by a final tally of 37-26. UE is back on the road Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. CST game at Belmont. |

Adams and Howe help Aces earn Saturday split
|
|
CONWAY, Ark. – After opening the day with a 10-0 loss to Southeastern Louisiana, the University of Evansville softball team rallied for a 5-4 win over Central Arkansas in Saturday’s action in Arkansas.
Game 1 – Southeastern Louisiana 10, UE 0
Southeastern Louisiana tagged Kate Ridgway for eight runs in 3 1/3 innings on their way to a 10-0 win in five innings. Brilee Ford’s 2-run double highlighted a 4-run bottom of the first for the Lions.
After adding a pair of runs in the third, the Lions put things out of reach with four more runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Macie LaRue earned the win for the Lions, throwing four frames while striking out five. UE was limited to one hit, which came off the bat of Maliyah Wilkins in the top of the first.
Game 2 – UE 5, Central Arkansas 4
Trailing 4-0 following the second inning, the Purple Aces recorded the final five runs to finish the day with a 5-4 victory over Central Arkansas.
Following a single run in the bottom of the first, Central Arkansas scored three in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Addi Graham hit a bases-clearing triple to extend the lead to 4-0. Evansville cut deficit in half in the top half of the third when Maliyah Wilkins and Morgan Adams each posted RBIs to cut the gap to 4-2.
Things remained at 4-2 until the top of the fifth when the Aces stormed back. Brooke Voss opened with a single while Taylor Howe was hit by a pitch. Voss scored on a groundout by Adams while Howe would cross the plate on a fielding error to tie the game.
Taylor Howe led off the top of the 7th with a double and would score what would be the game-winning run on another Adams single. Alexis Tucker allowed a baserunner in the bottom of the 7th, but finished the job and sealed the 5-4 win.
Adams went 2-4 with three RBI while Howe was 2-3 while scoring three runs in the contest. Tucker threw a complete game allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits. She struck out two batters.
On Sunday, the Aces face Saint Louis before a rematch against UCA. |

Brooke Voss leads UE to walk-off win over Saint Louis
|
|
CONWAY, Ark. – Brooke Voss recorded four hits including the walk-off winner to lead the University of Evansville softball team to a 12-11 win over Saint Louis in Sunday’s opener. In the second contest, the Purple Aces fell to Central Arkansas by a score of 12-4.
Game 1 – UE 12, Saint Louis 11 (8 innings)
In a wild back-and-forth contest, it was the Purple Aces erupting for 12 runs on 15 hits to finish with the 12-11 victory. Brooke Voss was the star of the game for UE, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and a walk. Miriah Powell, Angela Valentine, and Emma McDonald each had two hits apiece.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Aces added three runs in the second. Valentine scored on a Voss triple before Voss crossed the plate on an error by UCA. Eliza Piggott brought home the third run of the frame when she forced a bases-loaded walk.
Just as fast as UE took the lead, the Billikens countered with four runs in the top of the third. Two-run hits from Kate Proffitt and Bella Stephens knotted the score at 4-4. Voss put Evansville right back in front in the bottom of the third, hitting an RBI single to bring home McDonald. Powell crossed the plate on an error to push the lead to two.
Valentine extended the Aces lead to four runs with a 2-run double in the fifth, however, a 7-run top of the fifth put Saint Louis on top by an 11-8 score. McDonald brought in Valentine for a single run in the sixth before the offense made a late rally in the bottom half of the 7th. Taylor Howe led off with a double and scored when Maliyah Wilkins reached on a SLU error. With two outs, Jess Willsey came through with the game-tying single to score Keghan Pye, who pinch ran for Wilkins.
Gracie Hollingsworth, who entered with no outs and two Billikens on base in the top of the 7th, came through in the clutch. She recorded three quick outs to keep the deficit at two runs before retiring the side in order to begin the 8th. In the bottom of the inning, Emma McDonald reached on a 1-out triple. That brought Voss to the plate, who recorded her fourth hit of the game to give the Aces the victory in walk-off fashion.
Hollingsworth earned the victory for UE, throwing two scoreless innings with a strikeout.
Game 2 – Central Arkansas 12, UE 4
Scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth, Central Arkansas defeated UE by a 12-4 final in Sunday’s second contest. UE finished with six hits as Miriah Powell went 2-3 to lead the way.
Evansville wasted no time in taking the lead against Central Arkansas. Two-run hits by Niki Bode and Jess Willsey established a quick 4-0 lead. The Bears scored once in the bottom of the first and looked to do more in the ensuing frame as they stranded the bases loaded in the second.
In the bottom of the third, UCA broke through to tie the score with three runs. The Aces looked to regain the lead in the top of the fourth when Miriah Powell, Angela Valentine, and Emma McDonald each singled to load the bases with no outs. Unfortunately, the Bears were able to get out of the jam while keeping the score tied at 4-4.
Things remained tied at 4-4 until the bottom of the sixth when Central Arkansas scored eight runs to finish the game. Kate Ridgway threw 4 1/3 innings with four runs, three earned, crossing the plate. |

University of Evansville Launches TRIO Student Support Services Program to Advance Student Success
|
|
The University of Evansville (UE) has launched a new TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program, a federally funded initiative through the U.S. Department of Education designed to increase college retention and graduation rates for first-generation students, income-eligible students, and students with disabilities.
UE's initiative grant total for TRIO is approximately $1 million.
TRIO Student Support Services is part of the nationally recognized TRIO portfolio of programs, established under the Higher Education Act of 1965 to promote educational access for students who face systemic barriers to higher education. UE's TRIO SSS program will provide comprehensive, personalized support to help students persist, thrive, and graduate.
"TRIO Student Support Services represents a powerful investment in our students and in the University of Evansville's mission to support access, opportunity, and success," said Mary Kessler, UE Acting Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. "This program strengthens our ability to meet students where they are and provide the tools and guidance they need to reach their full potential."
Supporting Student Success at UE
The University of Evansville's TRIO SSS Program is designed to serve 140 undergraduate students annually, focusing on students who meet federal TRIO eligibility criteria. The program responds to documented challenges faced by this population, including academic preparedness gaps, financial barriers, and the complexities of navigating college systems.
The program has established ambitious, student-focused goals, including:
- 80% year-to-year persistence for participating students
- 95% of participants maintaining good academic standing
- 70% graduation rate within six years
To achieve these outcomes, UE's TRIO Student Support Services Program will provide a comprehensive suite of evidence-based supports, including individualized Academic Success Plans with ongoing coaching and progress reviews; academic tutoring; financial aid advising and financial literacy education; career readiness and graduate school preparation; and cultural enrichment experiences. These enrichment opportunities, such as visits to museums, historical sites, arts events, and community organizations, are designed to broaden students' worldviews and connect academic learning to real-world experiences.
Leadership Appointment
The University of Evansville is pleased to announce the appointment of Tracy Gerth as Project Director of the TRIO Student Support Services Program. Gerth has been with the University since 2022, most recently serving as Assistant Director of the Center for Career Development.
"We are especially excited to welcome an internal leader into this role," said Kessler. "Tracy brings deep knowledge of our students, a strong commitment to student success, and a proven dedication to the University of Evansville community. She is exceptionally well-positioned to build and lead this program with vision, compassion, and excellence."
As Project Director, Gerth will oversee program implementation, student services, compliance with federal requirements, and campus collaboration to ensure the program's long-term impact.
