UE Music Conservatory presents Alanna Keenan and Anne Fiedler
|
|
October 7, 2025
Wheeler Concert Hall
7:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, October 7, Alanna Keenan and Anne Fiedler present a program of music featuring W.A. Mozart, Richard Strauss, and Samuel Barber. This program is an exploration of the relationship between voice and piano in vocal literature. The program begins with Mozart’s concert aria, “Ch’io mi scordi di te.” This aria, written as a farewell gift for soprano Nancy Storace, features the unusual orchestration of voice, obbligato piano, and orchestra. After a dramatic recitative, the voice and piano enter into dialogue as themes and motives are passed back and forth between the two instruments. Following the aria, the early Lieder of Richard Strauss is visited. In these songs, the contrapuntal interplay between voice and piano is filtered through the lens of late 19th century Romanticism. The program concludes with Samuel Barber’s vocal masterpiece, Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Although originally scored for voice and orchestra, the piano reduction is the work of Barber himself.
Admission is free and open to the public |
