Music Conservatory presents, "Eternal Light"
|
|

The University of Evansville Music Conservatory is pleased to announce "Eternal Light," a choral concert to be held on Tuesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. CDT at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville.
The concert will showcase the University Choir, UE Choral Society, and a guest choir from First Presbyterian Church in Evansville. The program includes Maurice Durufle's "Requiem, Op. 9," as well as works by English composers Thomas Tallis and Charles Wood, and American composer Morten Lauridsen. A highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of "Remembered Light," a new composition by award-winning American composer William Averitt, commissioned specifically for the UE University Choir.
The concert will also highlight the talents of organist Robert Nicholls, adjunct instructor of organ at UE and Music Director at First Presbyterian Church in Evansville. Nicholls will perform on St. Benedict Cathedral's pipe organ, constructed by Parsons Pipe Organ Builders of Canandaigua, New York, which plays a prominent role in Durufle's "Requiem." Alanna Keenan, Associate Professor of Music, will also be a featured soloist. UE Director of Choral Activities and Oramay Cluthe Eades Distinguished Professor of Music, Dennis Malfatti, will conduct the concert
This collaboration between UE's Music Conservatory and St. Benedict Cathedral offers a unique opportunity for the community to experience profound choral works in a sacred setting. The public is welcome to attend this free event and immerse themselves in an evening of reflective and inspiring music. |

|
|

The Morgan Whitaker Stankey Andiron Lecture Series
We are pleased to announce that the next lecture in this series will be delivered by Dr. Clark Kimberling, on Thursday, April 10 at 4 PM in Koch 100. The title of the lecture is : “From Philadelphia to New Harmony, 1826-1832
In 1970, Clark Kimberling finished his Ph.D in mathematics at the Illinois Institute of Technology and joined the UE faculty. His interests in New Harmony stem from the finding of a certain fossil in Evansville in 1854 and subsequent involvement of scientists in nearby New Harmony. He then started a UE-based website, "New Harmony Scientists, Educators, Writers, and Artists". In 2000, he started the internationally acclaimed UE-based "Encyclopedia of Triangle Centers", and 2024, he received the Sadelle and Sydney Berger Award for Scholarship.
Synopsis:
In 1826, the passengers on the "Boatload of Knowledge" moved to New Harmony, Indiana, and established a scientific and educational community. Under the leadership of William Maclure, President of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, and Madame Marie Fretageot, the former Philadelphians made important contributions to the natural sciences, arts, and education. This lecture will describe the lives and works of Maclure, Thomas Say, Charles-Alexandre Lesueur, Madame Fretageot, and their copperplate engraver, Cornelius Tiebout. |

Minimalism in Music: Performance of Terry Riley's "In C"
|
|

On Tuesday, April 15 at 7:30 in Wheeler Concert Hall, come experience a performance of Terry Riley’s "In C," a minimalist masterpiece that changed the course of music history.
Written in 1964, "In C" is a seminal work in minimalist music, known for its repetitive, shifting patterns that unfold over time. Riley's use of 53 short modular motifs, combined with the flexibility of interpretation, allows each performance to be unique. The piece is open-ended, with performers choosing when to move to the next pattern, creating a rich, evolving soundscape. “In C” provided the foundation for the Minimalist movement, including, in addition to Terry Riley, the composers Philip Glass, Steve Reich, and John Adams.
Don't miss the chance to experience this pioneering piece and feel its transformative influence on contemporary music.

University of Evansville's School of Education Earns International Literacy Association National Recognition
|
|
Faculty in UE's School of Education engaged in a self-study to evaluate the effectiveness of their elementary and intermediate classroom programs in preparing future educators. The self-study was submitted to the International Literacy Association (ILA) for evaluation. The International Literacy Association National Recognition is awarded to outstanding licensure, certificate, and endorsement programs that prepare literacy professionals.
We are proud to announce that the University of Evansville has become the fifth higher education institution in the United States to earn ILA National Recognition for program alignment to rigorous ILA standards. Only fifteen universities in the United States have earned this distinction, and the University of Evansville is the first university in Indiana to qualify for this honor.
Earning ILA National Recognition demonstrates that UE's School of Education adheres to a rigorous set of standards for preparing literacy professionals, setting us apart from similar programs. This seal of approval, granted only by ILA, shows that the program at UE meets or exceeds ILA's high standards for excellence.
Special thanks are extended to our Dean, Dr. Andy Lampkins, and our Program Chair, Dr. Shari Millikan, for their enduring support and encouragement throughout this long process. We are thankful for your guidance and leadership! |
