UE Library Receives Indiana Humanities Action Grant for Moores Hill Project
|
|
The UE Library has been awarded an Action Grant from Indiana Humanities to support the project, A Day in the Life at Moores Hill College. The project will engage students in "The Future of UE's Archives" ChangeLab course throughout the 2025 calendar year. Under the guidance of Dr. Kristen Strandberg, students will visit the original Moores Hill Campus, digitize the Moores Hill collection in the UE Archives, create an online exhibit highlighting a "day in the life" of two actual Moores Hill College students, and give presentations at UE and South Dearborn County High School. The UE Library also thanks the Carnegie Historic Landmarks Preservation Society and the UE Center for Innovation and Change for providing matching funds to make this project possible.

Reminder: New Password Policy Effective March 1
|
|
There is an important update to UE's Password Policy, which will take effect on March 1. To enhance the security of our systems and protect user accounts, all passwords will now be required to have a minimum of 12 characters.
Passwords are a crucial aspect of computer security and serve as the front line of protection for user accounts. A poorly chosen password may result in the compromise of the University of Evansville's entire network. As such, all University of Evansville employees, including contractors and vendors with access to University systems, are responsible for taking the appropriate steps to select and secure their passwords. You may change your password anytime before the March 1, by going to https://passwordreset.evansville.edu.
For more details, please review the full password policy and other related policies at policies.evansville.edu. |

Apply to be an Orientation Leader

What is an Orientation Leader (OL)?
An orientation leader is a student committed to serving the University by offering information and assistance to incoming and new students and their families. OLs wear many hats so they must possess a “we care” attitude as they support students during orientation, welcome week, and beyond. OLs are held to the highest standards of good conduct and must possess leadership skills that allow them to be good role models for other students.
The “We Care” Attitude
OLs must be able to adapt and adjust quickly and easily to different situations and support a variety of differing needs and backgrounds of incoming students. A genuine interest in caring for people and an ability to spend long hours working with others are important. OLs are frequently asked to embody a spirit of team work and prioritize the needs of new students and family members above their own interests.

Professor Kimberling publishes research article
|
|
Professor Clark Kimberling and his colleague, Peter Moses of Worcestershire, England, have a research article in the journal Geometry. Entitled "Trigonometric Polynomial Points in the Plane of a Triangle," the article opens up a new area of geometry in which points in the plane of an abstract triangle, including points on the line at infinity, are systematically represented by barycentric coordinates involving the six basic trigonometric functions. The results in this article are highly dependent on Mathematica software and the UE-based Encyclopedia of Triangle Centers (https://faculty.evansville.edu/ck6/encyclopedia/etc.html). Aces track and field begins 2025 at the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic
|
|
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- After over a month away from competition the University of Evansville track and field team is back in action on Friday.
The Purple Aces will compete in their first meet of 2025 on Friday, January 24th as they travel to Kentucky for the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic. It will be UE's third straight season appearing in the meet hosted by the Bellarmine Knights at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. Evansville will look to improve on its performance from last season as the men's team finished 13th and the women's team finished 17th.
On Friday the Aces will be one of 19 schools competing, including 10 teams from Kentucky. Along with UE, athletes scheduled to compete will hail from Ball State, Bellarmine, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Southern Indiana, Western Kentucky, Wright State, Xavier, Campbellsville, University of the Cumberlands, Hanover, Midway, Spalding, Transylvania, Illinois Springfield, and Vincennes. Evansville has not competed against any of the teams at the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic during the 2024-25 indoor season through two other meets.
The last meet the Aces participated in was the Indiana Early Bird back on December 13. Sophomore sprinters Taylor Johnson (Evansville, Ind. / Reitz HS) and Raymond Felton III (Houston / Clear Brook HS) set three program records for UE in Bloomington. Both the men's and women's 200-meter records were reset along with the women's 400-meter record. Overall Evansville competed in 16 events with two podium finishes in the team's last appearance of the season. Johnson set her first program record of the meet in the 400-meter dash. Placing fourth in the event, Johnson ran the 400 in 57.32 seconds beating her program record from the year prior by just under half a second. Her second program record was in the 200 race with a time of 25.28 seconds for another fourth-place finish. In the men's 200-meter dash, Felton earned a third-place podium finish along with setting a new program record at 21.84 seconds.
The Aces will begin the day bright and early, at 8:45 a.m., with the women's weight throw. On Friday, UE will compete in 18 events, with the final event, the men's 4x400-meter relay, at 3:30 p.m. Evansville fans can follow along with the team's performance through Live Timing.

Second-half rally falls short against UIC
|
|
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After trailing by as many as 20 points in the second half, the University of Evansville men’s basketball team stormed back to get within seven points before UIC held on to take a 78-67 victory on Wednesday evening inside the Ford Center.
Five Purple Aces reached double figures in scoring with Tayshawn Comer leading the way with 18. Gabriel Pozzato scored 13 while Josh Hughes had 12. Tanner Cuff and Connor Turnbull finished the night with 10 points apiece. Comer led the way with eight assists and Pozzato hauled in a team-best six rebounds.
“We need to have the same urgency in the first half that we brought in the second,” Aces head coach David Ragland exclaimed. “We didn't do that tonight. Credit UIC for the way they played throughout those segments.”
Converting four of their first five attempts, UIC took a 9-4 lead out of the gate. Trailing 11-6, the Purple Aces stormed back with seven in a row to take their first lead of the night at 13-11. Josh Hughes recorded seven of those tallies before connecting on a triple for his 10th point of the night to give UE a 16-4 edge.
Eight lead changes took place in the opening half as the squads swapped multiple leads over the middle portions of the period. Things took a turn the Flames way in the final eight minutes. With the game tied at 22-22, UIC embarked on a 16-3 run to go up 38-25 with three minutes on the clock. The lead for the Flames reached as many as 17 (46-29) before a late basket from Tayshawn Comer made it a 47-32 game at the break.
Connor Turnbull knocked down a shot for the Aces first basket of the second half, but a pair of 3-pointers by the Flames pushed the advantage to 20 points at 56-36 at the 16:03 mark. Despite the deficit, Evansville fought back. Midway through the second half, a basket from Gabriel Pozzato cut the gap to 61-48. With just over nine minutes remaining, Pozzato’s triple made it a 12-point game.
While UIC fended off the challenge to go back up 15, the Aces never gave up. A pair of free throws by Hughes with five minutes left made it a 10-point game at 69-59. On the ensuing UIC possession, a turnover led to a Comer basket that cut the gap to eight. UE got as close as seven in the final minutes before the Flames fended off the challenge to take the win.
Jordan Mason scored a game-high 19 points to pace the Flames, who shot 48.1% in the game. Evansville finished at 45.9%. On the rebounding side, it was UIC finishing with a 40-30 edge.
Next up for the Aces is a trip to Valparaiso for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday. |
