The University of Evansville (UE) warmly invites the community to join a series of events honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as part of the institution's annual MLK celebration.

This year's theme of "Collective Leadership in a Changing World," reflects Dr. King's enduring message of unity, justice, and transformative service.

The celebration will begin on January 18 with UE students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to participate in the Joint MLK Day of Service, where participants will work together to uplift local neighborhoods in partnership with the University of Southern Indiana (USI) and Ivy Tech Community College. Other gatherings such as a faith-based dialogue, a symbolic march, and inspiring lectures will provide space to reflect on Dr. King's vision for a more equitable society.

One of the highlights of the week is the William G. and Rose M. Mays Lectureship, paired with the presentation of the Mays Legacy Award and Rising Star Service Award. The 2025 lectureship will feature keynote speaker will be Dr. Karsonya "Kaye" Wise Whitehead, who returns to Evansville after speaking at the 22nd Annual Women's Equality Day in August 2024.

Concluding the celebration, Dr. Kaye will have a book signing and facilitate the annual Community Leadership Panel that will bring together voices from across Evansville to discuss and explore pathways toward unity and action.

Guided by Dr. King's words- "A genuine leader Is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus"-this week of events invites all participants to celebrate diversity, foster inclusion, and envision a brighter future together.

This concert is dedicated to the memory of C. Paul Nolte (1922-2004), UE Professor of Music/Horn from 1957 to 1979.

UE Athletics is putting on a National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) community clinic Saturday, February 1^st. This clinic is built to celebrate our females in sports and celebrate the upcoming girls in sports!

The FREE clinic will be put on by our female sports and female staff to celebrate! The doors will open at 1:30 PM with the clinic starting at 2:30 PM. The clinic will last until 4 PM when the campers will be given a meal and ushered into the Women’s Basketball game at 5 PM for free!

All campers will receive a tshirt, meal and ticket to the game for FREE thanks to MDWise!

The Division of Enrollment and Marketing is thrilled to announce the return of Dr. Blair Doneske as Director of Enrollment Analytics and Strategy. Doneske will oversee the effective use of data to develop strategies and monitor the use of resources to drive enrollment growth for the university. Doneske brings nearly a decade of professional experience in technical sales, enterprise architecture, and data analytics through various roles at International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) and CenterPoint Energy. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University and a B.S. in Genetics from Texas A&M.

Katie comes to Honors from the Office of Admission where she has served for the last year as an international admission counselor. Aces wrap up road trip on Tuesday at UNI

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – A road swing through Iowa continues for the University of Evansville men’s basketball team on Tuesday evening when the Purple Aces face UNI at 7 p.m. at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls.  ESPN+ and the Purple Aces Radio Network will have the broadcast.

Last Time Out

- Drake opened the second half on a 19-1 run and pulled away for a 63-40 win over the Aces on Saturday in Des Moines

- Evansville led by five points in the first half and trailed by just five at the break

- Tayshawn Comer was the top scorer for UE, finishing with 11 while Cam Haffner added 10 points

Settling In

- Freshman Kaia Berridge recorded the top offensive game of his career at Drake, finishing with six points

- Berridge knocked down both 3-point attempts in the game

- He played 16 minutes in the game and finished with the second-lowest plus/minus on the team

Showing Consistency

- Over the last six games, Tanner Cuff has recorded 9.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game

- He continues to pace UE with his average of 6.3 boards per game; that mark ranks 8th in the MVC

- On the offensive side, Cuff has scored 7 or more in seven of the last eight games and is averaging 8.9 PPG on the season

- He had the top game of his career against Chattanooga, scoring 18 while adding 5 boards, 4 assists, 2 blocks and a steal

Scouting the Opponent

- With a last second win at Illinois State on Saturday, Northern Iowa improved to 10-7 on the season and 4-2 in Valley play

- The win ended a 2-game skid that saw them drop games against Valparaiso and Murray State

- Tytan Anderson leads the Panthers with 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game

- Anderson is a 57.6% shooter from the field and is tied for the team lead with 24 steals

- Jacob Hutson is averaging 12.2 PPG while Trey Campbell and Leon Bond III score 11.5 and 11.4 PPG, respectively

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – At the program’s in-state rivals the University of Evansville women’s basketball team set a season high in made three-point field goals but ultimately fell to the Indiana State Sycamores 90-74.

The Purple Aces had their highest-scoring offensive performance since December at the Hulman Center against Indiana State. With a season-high 13 made three-pointers UE had two players set career highs. But struggles under the glass kept the team from grabbing its first conference win of the season. Freshman guard Camryn Runner (Cicero, Ind. / Hamilton Heights HS) returned to her offensive ways in Terre Haute leading Evansville with 24 points and six assists.

Senior guard Júlia Palomo (La Seu D’Urgell) started the scoring on Sunday afternoon with a three in the first minute of the game. The Aces shot 50% from three-point range in the first half of the quarter to open up a 13-5 lead. UE hit a cold spell coming out of the timeout as Indiana State cut Evansville’s lead down to only three. Sophomore forward Maggie Hartwig (Sauk City, Wis. / Sauk Prairie HS) broke the drought with her second trey of the game. But the Sycamores added seven points in the last minute to take a two-point lead into the second quarter.

The Aces' shooting trouble continued into the second quarter as their first basket only came at the 6:42 mark. Freshman guard Camryn Runner hit two threes in the first five minutes to get UE back within two. The teams matched field goal for field goal until Indiana State ended the half with a 10-0 run as Evansville trailed 43-31.

Hartwig hit the first points of the second half, but the Aces struggled to put a run together early. Runner added her fourth three two minutes in, but UE went scoreless over the next two and a half minutes as the deficit grew to 21. Evansville was able to respond as freshman forward Elle Snyder (Latrobe, Penn. / Greater Latrobe HS) hit back-to-back threes. A 15-4 run for the Aces got them back within single digits with a minute left in the quarter. Hartwig closed out the third similar to how she began it with a layup to make it a 10-point game with 10 minutes left.

UE started the final quarter making two at the line for an eight-point game. But the Sycamores responded with an eight-point run to push the game out of reach. Evansville put together a brief six to two run midway through the fourth. With two perfect opportunities at the free throw line, the Aces hit the 70+ scoring mark. UE’s final basket came just under two minutes to go from junior forward Claudia Clement (Barcelona, Spain / Winthrop) as Evansville fell to Indiana State 90-74.

Both Runner and Snyder had career-high games behind the arc with six and three made three-pointers apiece. Runner also had a career-high game in assists with six helpers to power the Aces offense along with a team-high three steals. UE had two other players in double figures as Hartwig put up 16 while Clement had a career-high 10 points.

Evansville returns home to Meeks Fieldhouse for the first time since December 8th next week. The Aces will welcome the Missouri State Lady Bears to Evansville for their final time as conference opponents on Friday. Tip-off for UE and Missouri State is set for 6 p.m. and will be a Purple Out in Meeks.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Leading by five points at halftime, Drake utilized a 19-1 run to open the second half as they defeated he University of Evansville men’s basketball team by a final score of 63-40 on Saturday at the Knapp Center.

Pacing the Purple Aces was Tayshawn Comer who scored 11 points while Cam Haffner finished with 10.  Tanner Cuff was the Purple Aces’ leading rebounder with seven.  Kaia Berridge finished with a career-best six points while converting two triples.  Three Bulldogs reached double figures as Bennett Stirtz registered a game-high 16 points.  Daniel Abreu scored 12 while Mitch Mascari picked up a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 caroms.

“We just need to stay the course.  After the first half, we gave ourselves a chance to be in the game but we need to dig deep and get the job done,” Aces head coach David Ragland explained after the game.  “Our guys need to learn and grow from this and be ready to play on Tuesday.”

Connecting on their first two attempts of the night, the Bulldogs scored the first four points.  After missing its opening four shots, Cam Haffner put Evansville on the board with a turnaround jumper.  The Bulldogs quickly hit a triple to go up 7-2 with Haffner answering with a 3-pointer of his own shortly after.

Tayshawn Comer, who had a game-high 10 points at halftime, got on the board with a layup that tied the game at 7-7.  With the score knotted at 9-9, Kaia Berridge converted from outside to open a 5-0 stretch that saw UE take its largest lead of the half at the 10:49 mark.  Drake’s defense took over throughout the next six minutes, holding the Aces to 1-of-7 shooting while forcing a pair of turnovers.  The Bulldogs offense outscore the Aces by an 11-2 margin to retake a 20-16 advantage inside the 5-minute mark of the period.  Evansville kept the Bulldogs in sight as a pair of free throws made it a 25-20 game in favor of Drake at the half.

Out of the break, Drake came out on fire.  Draining their first three shots, the Bulldogs tallied the first 13 points of the half to take their first double digit lead at 38-20.  Tanner Cuff knocked down a free throw to end the scoreless stretch but Drake continued its run.  Six more points put DU up by a 44-21 margin with 9:22 left in the game.  Berridge connected on his second 3-pointer of the day in UE’s next possession for the first field goal of the half.  Evansville opened the period 0-for-6 from the field with six turnovers.

Evansville was able to get on track without letting the Bulldogs extend the lead much further.  Connor Turnbull hit a triple while picking up five points in the latter portion of the game.  In the end, it was Drake taking the win by a final of 63-40.

Drake shot 40% with UE finishing at 37.2%.  The Bulldogs completed the game with a 41-24 advantage on the glass.

The trip to Iowa continues on Tuesday night when the Aces face Northern Iowa in a 7 p.m. game in Cedar Falls.
