UE's Center for Innovation & Change Presents Nationally and Globally on Changemaking Leadership in Promise Neighborhoods
|
|
UE’s Center for Innovation & Change was invited to present at both the national convening for Promise Neighborhood and Full Service Community Schools, and at Ashoka’s Global Headquarters on its unique blend of changemaking in the Promise Neighborhood. UE is the only college in the world that is both a Changemaker Campus and home to one of the USDOE’s $30,000,000 grants. It led a session with other Promise Neighborhoods on how to do co-design with their communities, and hosted an affinity group for higher education based neighborhoods.
Following the conference, the team was invited to Ashoka’s Global HQ to present at High Level Convening: Higher Education & the Future of Work: Co-creating A Prosperous Future for All. Erin Lewis, Executive Director, provided an overview of changemaking at UE, and then the team, including Andrew Carter, Associate Director, Dr. Derek Jones, Director of Field Innovation, and Derek McKillop, EPN Director, engaged in a panel discussion with participants on the potential for this work to showcase a new role for universities as anchor institutions.
The program was facilitated and hosted by Patty Alper, president of the Alper Portfolio Group, a marketing and consulting company, and a board member of both the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) and US2020, the White House initiative to build mentorship in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) careers. She has also been appointed to the corporate committee for Million Women Mentors, is a trustee of the Phillips Collection, and was recently inducted into Who’s Who in America. The team is pictured below with Patty, along with Ashoka co-hosts Eidi Cruz-Valdivieso, Director, Strategy and Engagement, and Heather MacCleoud, PhD, Chief Network Officer, Ashoka U |

Harlaxton College has officially taken on tenancy at the historic Gregory Arms Pub. This exciting venture further integrates Harlaxton within the local community and creates new opportunities for engagement, education, and cultural exchange.
Located near Harlaxton Manor, the 19th-century Gregory Arms Pub has long been a beloved gathering spot for students, faculty, locals, and visitors alike. Now managed by Harlaxton Manor Enterprises, "The Greg" will offer five guest rooms along with its pub services, with all proceeds supporting student experiences at Harlaxton College.
Plans include utilizing the pub as a resource for internships, summer programs, and classes, offering students the chance to explore the cultural and historical significance of British pubs. Additionally, efforts are underway to preserve its welcoming atmosphere while introducing student-led events, educational workshops, and collaborative projects with various partners. By acquiring this iconic establishment, Harlaxton aims to honor its history while creating a dynamic space for academic, social, and community activities.

UE women's basketball earns win over IU Columbus on Education Day
|
|
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women’s basketball team bounced back with an 84-52 win over IU Columbus for its Education Day game at the Ford Center.
After a tough loss on Saturday, the Purple Aces recovered quickly on Tuesday against the IU Columbus Crimson Pride for their annual Education Day. UE particularly shined on defense with a season-high 17 steals and only allowed three IUC offensive rebounds. Sophomore forward Maggie Hartwig (Sauk City, Wis. / Sauk Prairie HS) led Evansville on both sides of the ball for her third double-double of the season.
“What a fun game to be out here with all the local students. They were so loud and created a great atmosphere,” said Head Coach Robyn Scherr following the victory. “These games are always really fun and it was exciting to be apart of it. This game was really good for us as we’ve got a lot of games in a short stretch.
“It was a chance for us to get some players a little more comfortable on the floor. We had some players coming off of injury that were able to get on the floor. That part was really really valuable for us. I was happy with how our kids played overall, especially in the third quarter.”
In front of over 1,400 Tri-State area students the Aces kept it close early as the lead was traded seven times. UE’s first run of the game started with freshman Avery Kelley’s (Evansville, Ind. / Memorial HS) first collegiate three four minutes into the first. Evansville then rattled off a seven-point run to take the lead for the rest of the game. Kelley added another triple to end the quarter for the Aces as they headed into the second up by three.
Both teams struggled to score early in the second quarter as only three field goals were made in the first five minutes. But UE soon found its offensive rhythm with a six-point run to take a double-digit lead. Adding four points in the final minute of the first half Evansville led by 13 at the half break.
The game fully turned the Aces way in the third quarter as UE’s defense didn’t allow a made basket from the Crimson Pride for almost five minutes. In that first four minutes and 53 seconds of the second half, Evansville scored eight straight points growing its lead to 21. After the Aces' run was broken by a free throw they quickly responded with a seven-point run. UE’s lead grew to 32 with a minute and a half left in the third as freshman guard Kaiden Kreinhagen (Indianapolis, North Central HS) hit her second triple of the quarter. The teams traded free throws to end the third as Evansville held a commanding 63-32 lead.
In the final 10 minutes of the game the Aces removed their more experienced players to have all 11 of their healthy players get time on the floor. Ten of UE’s players scored at least two points as junior forward Mira Hanna (Palm Harbor, Fla. / Little Rock) had her first and-1 opportunity two and a half minutes into the fourth. Evansville had two brief four-point runs in the final seven minutes of the game as the team cruised to an 84-52 win over IU Columbus.
Three Aces set new career scoring highs on Tuesday including Kreinhagen, Kelley, and sophomore forward Claudia Clement (Barcelona, Spain). Hartwig was UE’s leader on the floor with 21 points and 10 rebounds while tying a career-high of three steals. Two other Evansville players ended the game in double-digits as Kreinhagen poured in 15 while guard Camryn Runner (Cicero, Ind. / Hamilton Heights HS) had 12.
On the defensive side of the ball forwards Tamesha Dozier (Louisville, Ky. / Wabash Valley) and freshman Elle Snyder (Latrobe, Penn. / Greater Latrobe HS) had eight rebounds each. Snyder also contributed a game-high six steals for two defensive career records. Despite being the Aces' shortest player on the floor, Kelley recorded the only block of the game for UE.
Evansville will end its non-conference schedule on the road this weekend. The Aces head up to the Windy City to face the Loyola Ramblers for the first time since they left the Missouri Valley Conference in 2022. Tip-off from Gentile Arena on Saturday, December 21st is set for 2 p.m. CT. |

Aces women's basketball to host IU Columbus for Education Day
|
|
The Purple Aces struggled to stop the Vanderbilt Commodores explosive offense and get around their stifling defense on Saturday afternoon in their past game. UE fell in its return to Memorial Gymnasium after 30 years 106-40 as the Commodores NET ranking rose to eight. Evansville returns to the River City for its first-ever meeting with the IU Columbus Crimson Pride. IU Columbus is in its first year with a women's basketball team as the Indiana regional campus did not have formal athletics until the 2023-24 academic year. The Crimson Pride is under the direction of Head Coach Dana Dunson, the uncle of Aces Associate Head Coach Dodie Dunson.
UE will host its annual Education Day against IU Columbus on Tuesday morning. With the game at 11 a.m. in the Ford Center, the Aces will welcome over 1,400 area students from multiple local school districts during their last week of school before the holidays. The game will feature educational videos on the center scoreboard, a workbook students can fill out during the game, and an exciting arena atmosphere.
Evansville's underclassmen continue to lead through non-conference action. Of the Aces' 590 points this season 73.9% have been scored by freshmen or sophomores. All but one of UE's top five scorers through nine games are underclassmen. Evansville's leading scorer has been freshman guard Camryn Runner (Cicero, Ind. / Hamilton Heights HS) who is averaging 18.7 points a game. Along with leading the Aces in points, Runner is one of the top free throw shooters in the country. As of Monday, Runner is third in the nation in free throw attempts with 99. She is also fourth among Division I players in free throws made with 80 made attempts at the line.
Freshman guard Logan Leubbers Palmer (Union, Ky. / Randall K. Cooper HS) was an important part of UE's offense in her collegiate debut. In 17 minutes at Vanderbilt, Palmer was second on the team in scoring with nine points while also pulling down two boards. With the nine-point performance, Palmer is now one of Evansville's top five scorers in points per game. |
