Erika Taylor hails from the south side of Chicago where she developed a passion for social justice. She earned a bachelor’s degree in French at Indiana University and went on to earn a law degree from Indiana University McKinney School of Law. After working as an attorney in Chicago city government for 2 years, Erika moved to Evansville where she practiced in the area of commercial litigation. When the opportunity to work as in-house counsel for a local company presented itself, Erika left the daily practice of law to work in the areas of human resources and employment law. From there she served in various executive leadership positions before landing at YWCA Evansville where she now serves as Chief Executive Officer.

Erika has a lifetime of community leadership experience having served on numerous boards and volunteering for countless community groups, committees, and charitable fundraisers. Erika’s passion is helping underserved women and children and advocating for equal rights for all citizens. She is currently a member of the City of Evansville’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council. * Inaugural Morgan Whitaker Stankey Andiron Lecture to be on October 30

The William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences is delighted to announce the launch of a new lecture series: The Morgan Whitaker Stankey Andiron Lectures. The Inaugural Lecture will be at 4:00pm on October 30 in SOBA 170, delivered by former UE Professor Dr Wes Milner. The series is dedicated to the memory of University of Evansville alumna Morgan Stankey, who passed away suddenly in March, 2023. Many generous gifts in Morgan’s memory have allowed us to reinvigorate a long-established tradition – the Andiron Lecture - that was a significant part of the University’s intellectual life for many years.

Morgan graduated with honors from Harrison High School and the University of Evansville. In typical over-achieving Morgan fashion, she graduated with three majors: History, Political Science and International Studies. She was an outstanding student and was beloved by both students and faculty in her three departments. Morgan was proud to be an Admissions Ambassador for UE, perfecting the art of talking and walking backward, and only once falling into rose bushes while extolling the virtues of the University. She spent two semesters in England at UE’s Harlaxton College, and later enrolled at the nearby University of Nottingham, where she earned Master’s degrees in contemporary European history and politics. Her father, Dr Michael Stankey, was Professor of Communications at UE, and her stepfather, Dr Stuart Dorsey, was Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Established in 1982, the William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences offered the Andiron Lectures in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Lectures explored an array of topics, reflecting the multiplicity of scholarly endeavors of faculty members at the University of Evansville. These lectures were always free and hospitably open to the greater Evansville community. Presenters were primarily drawn from the faculty of the William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences but included faculty members and administrators from across the University campus and occasional contributions from the larger regional community as well. The Andiron Lecture series was sponsored by the William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences and was supported by a generous gift from Donald B. Korb.

Please join us in celebrating the commencement of a new tradition that honors both Morgan’s memory and the distinguished history of the Andiron Lectures. We hope to see you on October 30.

* Volleyball puts up fierce battle at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa – Strong performances in each set saw the University of Evansville volleyball team give Drake all it could handle, but late rallies by the Bulldogs saw them finish with a 3-0 win on Saturday at the Knapp Center.

Giulia Cardona led all players with 23 kills while adding 12 digs.  Angelica Gonzalez finished with eight kills while Chloe Cline added five.  Ainoah Cruz led the way with 15 digs while Kora Ruff recorded 29 assists.  Megan Witte paced the bulldogs with 13 kills.

Set 1 – Drake 25, UE 20

After Drake took an early 6-2 lead, the Purple Aces rallied back.  Kills by Giulia Cardona and Chloe Cline saw UE tie the score at 9-9.  Evansville was unable to take the lead as the Bulldogs answered each time the Aces tied it up.

Holding a 16-15 lead, Drake scored three in a row to go back up by four.  Evansville cut the deficit in half to get within a pair before DU fended off the challenge to take the set.

Set 2 – Drake 25, UE 21

Evansville scored the opening three points with Blakeley Freeman recording an ace.  The Bulldogs came back to tie the score at 5-5, but with the score knotted at 7-7, UE scored eight of the next 10 points to go up 15-9.  Angelica Gonzalez and Cardona picked up kills during the rally.

Another kill by Cardona set the Aces up with a 19-13 edge.  That is when the Bulldogs staged a furious rally.  Completing the game on a 12-2 run, Drake took a 2-0 match lead.

Set 3 – Drake 25, UE 19

UE put forth another solid effort in the third set as a solo block by Josdarilee Caraballo gave her team a 2-1 lead.  After Drake wrestled away an 11-9 edge, the Aces countered with a 6-0 rally with Freeman picking up two more aces.

Things continued to look good for Evansville as a Cardona kill solidified a 17-14 edge.  Unfortunately, Drake stormed back with five in a row and a longer match-ending 11-2 run.  The Aces return home next weekend to face Bradley and Illinois State.

On the men’s side, the Purple Aces fell to the second-ranked team in the country by a 195-95 final while the women fell short by a 156-91 score.

* Aces women's soccer ends 2024 with a win over Southern Illinois

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women’s soccer team ended their 2024 season with a 2-0 win over the Southern Illinois Salukis.

The Purple Aces ended their season on a high note with their highest margin of victory on Sunday afternoon. Freshman defender Emmy Brenner (Arlington, Tenn. / St. Benedict at Auburndale HS) scored her third goal and first game-winner of the year in the 40th minute. While senior forward Ryleigh Anslinger (Evansville, Ind. / Memorial HS) had her first point of the year in her final match with UE on junior forward Chrysta Vasquez's (Las Vegas / Coronado HS) goal in the 60th minute.

“This match was good for a lot of different reasons,” said Head Coach Chris Pfau following the victory. “We talk a lot about changing the program and the culture of the team. This is a game we could have gotten blown out; we didn’t have to show up. Last Sunday giving up a goal really late to knock us out of the playoffs really deflated us. It’s been a tough week both on the field and off.

“I said we have to show up because we owe the seniors and the players that came back for a fifth year. And that’s what they did. That’s the character and the culture of this team now. They care about each other; they’re playing for each other. And I thought the result was good. We started scoring at the end of the season. But that’s good because we’re starting to find what we needed and the pieces for the future.”

It was a slow start to the final match of the season for both teams as neither found the offensive end of the pitch until the 37th minute. Evansville picked up a yellow card through the early defensive battle but also had two corner kicks to Southern Illinois one. The Aces broke the nil-nil draw on their first shot of the match on the set piece as Brenner headed the ball from the six into the middle of the net. Sophomore midfielder Ashlyn Koutsos (Cumming, Ga. / West Forsyth HS) was credited with the assist on the goal from taking the corner for UE.

The Salukis tried to respond in the final five minutes of the first half with four straight shots. But all four of the attempts didn’t find their way to the net. The second half got off to a quick start as SIU registered a shot in the 48th minute while Evansville made two trips into the offensive zone.

The Aces doubled their lead early in the half as 15 minutes in Anslinger connected with Vasquez from just inside the penalty area to the top corner of the goal box. Vasquez then easily used her right foot to put the ball to the right of the Salukis goalkeeper for her only goal of the season. UE’s defense locked in for the final 30 minutes of the match as fifth-year goalkeeper Myia Danek (Laingsburg, Mich. / Laingsburg HS) recorded a save and fended off a shot wide in the final minute.

Brenner was the only Evansville player with multiple shots on Sunday afternoon as both of her attempts went on target. All four of the Aces defenders played for a full 90 minutes as fifth-year player Rachel Rosborough (Mt. Brydges, Ontario) ended her career as UE’s all-time minutes played leader at 6,506 minutes. Danek also made her way into the record book for Evansville on Sunday with 36 matches played at ninth all-time, 157 saves for eighth in program history, and sixth in shutouts with nine through three seasons.

The Aces end the 2024 season with a 2-7-7 record. Senior forward Hailey Autenrieb (Cincinnati / Seton HS) and Brenner ended the year tied for UE’s offensive lead with nine points each. With three goals, Brenner and sophomore forward Taylor Johnson (Evansville, Ind. / Reitz HS) led Evansville in scoring while Autenrieb led the team in assists with three. The Aces say goodbye to five players with the end of the 2024 season in Danek, Autenrieb, midfielder Reese Simmons (Las Vegas / Shadow Ridge HS), Anslinger, and Rosborough.

* Aces fall in weekend opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Big starts in the first two sets catapulted Northern Iowa to a 3-0 win over the University of Evansville volleyball team on Friday evening at the McLeod Center.

Giulia Cardona led the Purple Aces with six kills while Ainoah Cruz led the way with 14 digs.  Kora Ruff added 10 assists.  UNI was led by Kira Fallert’s 11 kills.

Set 1 – UNI 25, UE 9

A quick start saw the Panthers score the opening four points of the night before Giulia Cardona got the Aces on the board with a kill.  Despite the point, UNI kept the pressure on, opening a 9-1 lead before cruising to a 25-9 win to take the early match lead.

Set 2 – UNI 25, UE 7

Another quick start saw the Panthers post the first six points of the set.  Following a time out, the Aces forced a pair of UNI errors to get on the board.  Holland Morris picked up a kill as UE closed the gap to 9-4.  From that point, Northern Iowa outscored the Aces by a 16-3 margin to take a 2-0 lead

Set 3 – UNI 25, UE 18

Josdarilee Caraballo had an ace to give Evansville its first lead of the night at 3-1.  Cardona recorded a kill that continued to keep UE in front at 5-3.  With the Aces up 8-6, UNI scored three in a row to jump in front before extending the lead to 14-10.

Evansville continued to battle to the final point before the Panthers clinched the match with a 25-18 decision.  UE completes the road trip on Saturday with a 4 p.m. match at Drake.

* Aces men's soccer blanks Bowling Green on Senior Day

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On a night celebrating their 11 senior players the University of Evansville men’s soccer team earned a crucial three points in a 1-0 victory over the Bowling Green State Falcons.

It only took one goal for the Purple Aces to earn a win over Bowling Green on Friday night. Graduate forward Sami Owusu (Denver/ Dayton) capitalized on the Falcons goalkeeper coming out of the box in the 60th minute for UE’s lone goal of the night. Freshman goalkeeper Michal Mroz (Elk Grove, Ill. / Elk Grove HS) was a brick wall in the net with six saves for his fourth clean sheet of 2024.

“That’s a college soccer game right there,” said Head Coach Robbe Tarver following the victory. “Crazy swings from both sides and posts for both teams. PK’s called, PK’s rescinded. We’re really happy to win at home on Senior Night for the 12 seniors.

“The grittiness and guys playing who haven’t played for a minute all year stepping up and ready to defend a one-goal lead and come out victorious. I think that speaks volumes to the guys that we have in this program. And like I’ve told them we’re setting a new standard. This is just another step along the way. And we’re pumped to have 12 points in MVC play.”

It was a defensive first half at Arad McCutchan Stadium as both teams fought for possession in the mid-third. The Aces had the first shot of the match in the third minute as senior midfielder Jose Vivas (Teruel, Spain) took a chance from outside the 18. Bowling Green had the next shot in the 15th minute as neither team put together an offensive run in the half. UE’s best chance in the first 45 came in the 32nd minute as Vivas had the ball by himself right in front of the goal box. But the shot sailed over the net keeping it a scoreless draw heading into halftime.

Evansville came out of the half-break firing on all cylinders as senior forward Nacho Diaz Barragan (Almeria, Spain) put a shot on goal in the first 30 seconds. The Falcons found their way back to the Aces defensive zone, but UE quickly moved back to the attack.

In the 59th minute, Bowling Green tried to play the ball back to their defense but missed its target. Redshirt freshman midfielder Jacopo Fedrizzi (Giulia, Italy) picked up the ball on the mistake, sending it to fifth-year forward Kai Phillip (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago). Phillip quickly found Owusu alone on the right side of the 12, where he buried the ball into the bottom left corner of the net for Evansville’s lone goal.

The Aces defense stood strong the final 30 minutes of the match as the Falcons took eight shots. The match began to get chippy around the 66th minute as both teams picked up two yellow cards in 12 minutes including a penalty opportunity for Bowling Green. In the 80th minute, a UE yellow in the box gave the Falcons a PK. Mroz made the diving save to the bottom left corner of the net to keep Evansville in the lead.

Bowling Green was able to take three more shots in the final five minutes of the match. But the Aces' defense blocked all three to pick up their eighth win of the season and fourth win of Valley play. Vivas and Phillip led the offense with two shots each while three other players had an opportunity at the net.

UE hits the road for a Top 25 matchup on Friday, November 1st. Evansville will visit Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium for the final time in MVC play to take on the no. 13 Missouri State Bears. Kick-off from Springfield is set for 7 p.m.

* UE women's soccer wraps up the 2024 season at home

In UE women's soccer final road game of the season the Aces picked up another point at Indiana State with a 2-2 draw. For the second match in a row sophomore forward Taylor Johnson (Evansville, Ind. / Reitz HS) scored Evansville's first goal of the match. While fifth-year defender Rachel Rosborough (Mt. Brydges, Ontario) scored the second goal of her career and her first since the 2021 season for the tie. The point on Sunday was UE's first in Terre Haute in three years with their last tie against the Sycamores coming in 2021. The Aces haven't won at Memorial Stadium since 2017.

Southern Illinois comes into the final match of 2024 with a .500 record at 6-6-5 on the season. The Salukis currently hold the eighth seed in the MVC Tournament with nine points after a 2-4-3 Valley record with one match to go. SIU's two wins in conference action came against Murray State and Valparaiso with ties against Illinois State, Indiana State, and UIC. But the Salukis have been on a four game losing skid as they visit UE for the third time in series history.

In four matches through three years of play between the Aces and the Salukis neither team has won by more than a goal. Both teams will be looking to take the series lead in the final match of the season. The series is currently tied at one win each with two ties between the squads. This will be the first time either team is ending the season playing the other. In all four prior matches, UE and SIU have played during the first half of MVC play. UE's senior players were the first to play against SIU when they joined the MVC during the shortened 2020- 2021 season.

Rosborough has climbed to the top of UE's rankings for minutes played in a career. With 15 90-minute games this season, Rosborough has played 1,328 minutes in 2024. For her career, Rosborough is at 6,506 minutes, and has surpassed former goalkeeper and minute record-holder Michaela Till by 136 minutes. The two Aces played with each other from 2020 to 2021.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – It was a trio of newcomers who led the way for the University of Evansville men’s basketball team as Gabriel Pozzato, Tayshawn Comer, and Connor Turnbull combined for 53 points in the Purple Aces’ 86-60 win over Tiffin on Saturday at the Ford Cetner.

Pozzato recorded a game-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting.  He converted four of his six long range tries.  Comer finished with 16 points while Turnbull finished the afternoon with 15.  Tanner Cuff took care of business on the glass, hauling in 12 boards.  Comer led the team with seven assists and three steals.

Over the opening minutes of the contest, it was all Aces as they jumped out to a 17-4 lead.  Tayshawn Comer, who converted three 3-point plays in the opening half, had his first in the early moments.

From that point, the Dragons found their rhythm as they outscored the Aces by a 17-13 margin to get within nine points in the final minutes at 30-21.  Connor Turnbull connected on a shot and Comer added two more 3-point plays in the final minutes as UE extended its lead back up to 14, taking a 42-28 lead into the break.

Evansville’s lead remained around 15 in the opening moments of the second half before the Aces were able to push the lead to 20.  Gabriel Pozzato knocked down a jumper before Joshua Hughes connected from downtown to make it a 54-34 game inside of 13 minutes remaining.

After Tiffin got back within 14 points at 64-50, the Aces put the finishing touches on the contest with a 15-0 run that put the score at 79-50 with 4:54 remaining.  UE held strong, cruising to the 86-60 victory.

Tiffin was led by Allen Fordham’s 11 points.  As a team, the Aces shot 50%, hitting 29 out of 58 tries while holding the Dragons to 38.6%.

Regular season play begins on Tuesday, Nov. 5 with a trip to North Texas.

* Men's basketball faces Tiffin in exhibition game on Saturday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In the first and only exhibition game of the preseason, the University of Evansville men’s basketball team welcomes Tiffin University to the Ford Center on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.

It will be the first opportunity for fans to see the 2024-25 Purple Aces squad.  A solid nucleus or returning players join six newcomers to the team.  Leading the way for the returners from last year are Tanner Cuff, Joshua Hughes, and Cam Haffner.  Cuff contributed in all facets of the game in his first season at UE.  He completed the year averaging 7.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

As a freshman, Hughes led the team with 38 blocked shots while registering 6.6 PPG.  Haffner made the start in 16 games while finishing third on the team with 33 3-point makes.

Evansville’s newcomers include Gabriel Pozzato, Kaia Berridge, Tayshawn Comer, Connor Turnbull, Ramondo Battle II, and Trent Hundley.

UE looks to build on a breakout 2023-24 season that saw the program make its first postseason appearance since 2015.  Earning 17 victories, the Aces posted their highest win total since 2017-18 and picked up their first Arch Madness win since 2017, defeating Illinois State in St. Louis.  The team won its first six games, the first Evansville team to do so since the 1964-65 NCAA National Championship squad.

Tiffin is led by first-year head coach Desmond Balentine, brother of current UE assistant coach D.J. Balentine.  He spent two seasons on the coaching staff with the Dragons before his elevation to the head coaching position.  The Dragons were 18-12 last season.
