Inaugural Morgan Whitaker Stankey Andiron Lecture to be on October 30
|
|
The William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences is delighted to announce the launch of a new lecture series: The Morgan Whitaker Stankey Andiron Lectures. The Inaugural Lecture will be at 4:00pm on October 30 in SOBA 170, delivered by former UE Professor Dr Wes Milner. The series is dedicated to the memory of University of Evansville alumna Morgan Stankey, who passed away suddenly in March, 2023. Many generous gifts in Morgan’s memory have allowed us to reinvigorate a long-established tradition – the Andiron Lecture - that was a significant part of the University’s intellectual life for many years.
Morgan graduated with honors from Harrison High School and the University of Evansville. In typical over-achieving Morgan fashion, she graduated with three majors: History, Political Science and International Studies. She was an outstanding student and was beloved by both students and faculty in her three departments. Morgan was proud to be an Admissions Ambassador for UE, perfecting the art of talking and walking backward, and only once falling into rose bushes while extolling the virtues of the University. She spent two semesters in England at UE’s Harlaxton College, and later enrolled at the nearby University of Nottingham, where she earned Master’s degrees in contemporary European history and politics. Her father, Dr Michael Stankey, was Professor of Communications at UE, and her stepfather, Dr Stuart Dorsey, was Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Established in 1982, the William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences offered the Andiron Lectures in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Lectures explored an array of topics, reflecting the multiplicity of scholarly endeavors of faculty members at the University of Evansville. These lectures were always free and hospitably open to the greater Evansville community. Presenters were primarily drawn from the faculty of the William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences but included faculty members and administrators from across the University campus and occasional contributions from the larger regional community as well. The Andiron Lecture series was sponsored by the William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences and was supported by a generous gift from Donald B. Korb.
Please join us in celebrating the commencement of a new tradition that honors both Morgan’s memory and the distinguished history of the Andiron Lectures. We hope to see you on October 30.

9th Annual Ace Race Skele-fun Run
|
|
On behalf of Ace CARE, we would like to invite you to the 9th annual Ace Race Skele-fun Run 5K!
Ace CARE is hosting our largest fundraiser, the Ace Race 5K, on October 26, 2024. We are asking for support from students and faculty so that we may continue to provide care to our most vulnerable neighbors. We welcome you to join us for the race to support our organization.
The mission of Ace CARE is to connect the unmet health care needs of the Tri-State community with the educational experience of our Doctor of Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Athletic Training students. We do this by providing free physical therapy care and group exercise programs to the uninsured, underinsured, homeless, and vulnerable members of our community to improve the quality of life in our surrounding area.
Last year, our students volunteered over 3,500 hours of their time, and we were able to treat over 127 participants. Ace CARE operates solely on community philanthropy, and we work tirelessly to keep our doors open to those we serve.

Lincoln Commons to Welcome Third Evansville Qdoba Location on October 28
|
|
The University of Evansville's (UE) Lincoln Commons student housing apartment complex will soon welcome its first retail tenant, Qdoba, which is set to officially open on October 28. Orange Leaf is scheduled to open days later on November 1.
Located at the corner of Weinbach and Lincoln Avenues, Lincoln Commons is a four-story building offering modern living accommodations for approximately 123 junior and senior students. It opened its doors to students in August at the start of the Fall 2024 semester.
UE officials previously announced that both Qdoba, a fast-casual Mexican restaurant, and Orange Leaf, a self-serve frozen yogurt chain, would be the first tenants to occupy the 3,500 square feet of retail space on the lower level.
Qdoba will open its third location on the UE campus, adding to its existing spots on the East and West sides of the city. Meanwhile, Orange Leaf is expanding with a second location, complementing its current site on the East Side. The restaurant openings are expected to create approximately 30 new jobs, further strengthening the local economy. |
