Join the Center for Student Engagement for the next workshop of its newly developed Leadership Lunch and Learn Series!

The Center for Student Engagement is excited to introduce a new leadership development framework that combines the Social Change Model of Leadership Development and Corey Seemiller's Student Leadership Competencies. This framework provides a holistic approach to cultivating impactful student leaders.

This lunch and learn series will explore the key elements of this framework, including:

- Developing personal values, group values, and a commitment to social change
- Building essential leadership skills and competencies such as communication, decision-making, and ethical responsibility
- Applying these principles to real-world leadership opportunities and challenges

Through interactive discussions and collaborative activities, participants will gain valuable insights and strategies to enhance their leadership journey at the University of Evansville.

To head up the next installment of this series, Dr. Rachel Carpenter, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, will be using her experience and expertise in group dynamics and problem solving to help students better undersand how they can work together toward a common goal and also be able to collaboratively address any issues that may arise.

Featuring Charles du Preez (clarinet), with guests Mark Hatlestad (viola), Graham Cullen (cello), and Tom Drury (piano).

Join us Tuesday, September 24 at 7:30 in Wheeler Concert Hall for a night of musical marvels.

These performances will take the listener on a journey of many emotions over the course of three very unique pieces. The recital will begin with Rebecca Clarke’s beautiful duo for clarinet and viola, Prelude, Allegro, and Pastorale. Composed in 1941, but only discovered in 1989, this gem takes the listener on a voyage through melancholy and nostalgia.

inti figgiz-vizueta’s piece no words, for clarinet and electronics “confronts the increased police surveillance in gentrified neighborhoods, drawing and reflecting on the composer’s experiences growing up in a majority Black and Salvadoran community and hood in Washington, D.C.” This piece involves electroacoustic clarinet, and creates a space of exploration, inquiry, and reflection. Expect unusual sounds and a loud volume in this conceptual piece, composed in 2019.

The final selection on the program, Beethoven’s Trio in B flat major, Op. 11, showcases the virtuosity of the clarinet, cello, and piano; the excitement of the composer exudes throughout. Written early in Beethoven’s career, the Trio bases the theme of the final movement on a popular opera song from the composer’s day. Considering the amount of sampling that takes place in current popular music, examples like the Trio serve to form and solidify the link between Beethoven and the popular music of the present era.

The UE Music Conservatory and EVSC are collaborating to offer the third annual ChoirPalooza. Over the course of Thursday, September 19 and Friday, September 20, UE welcomes to campus over 600 middle and high school students in EVSC vocal music programs for workshops with nationally recognized guest music teachers. We're happy to welcome our guests campus.

The Center for the Advancement of Learning invites you to participate in the upcoming workshop “Building Effective Teams,” on Thursday, September 26, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in Eykamp Hall, Room 252.

Led by Dr. Tad Dickel, leadership expert and Faculty Director of the MS in Leadership program, this interactive session will empower you to:

• Define your team’s purpose
• Set clear goals and expectations
• Strengthen communication
• Navigate challenges effectively

The University of Evansville Theatre opens their 2024–2025 season with INTO THE WOODS, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by James Lapine, originally directed on Broadway by James Lapine, and orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. This production opens at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4, in Shanklin Theatre. Additional performances are at 7:30 p.m., on Oct. 5, 17, 18, 19, and at 2:00 p.m., on Oct. 20.

Once upon a time, a genius and prolific composer, Stephen Sondheim, partnered with a brilliant writer, James Lapine, and they created a modern twist on the fairy tales you only thought you knew. This Tony Award-winning musical features a childless couple’s quest to undue the curse put on their family by a Witch, as well as their fateful encounters with Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella. Rapunzel, and Jack (and his beanstalk). This spell-binding tale weaves together a soaring score with magical adventures that ultimately lead these iconic characters to view their interdependence as a greater strength than simply living happily ever after.

            INTO THE WOODS is directed by Assistant Professor Wes Grantom ’03. Ace CARE is hosting our largest fundraiser, the Ace Race 5K, on October 26, 2024. We are asking for support from students and faculty so that we may continue to provide care to our most vulnerable neighbors. We welcome you to join us for the race to support our organization.

The mission of Ace CARE is to connect the unmet health care needs of the Tri-State community with the educational experience of our Doctor of Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Athletic Training students. We do this by providing free physical therapy care and group exercise programs to the uninsured, underinsured, homeless, and vulnerable members of our community to improve the quality of life in our surrounding area.

Last year, our students volunteered over 3,500 hours of their time, and we were able to treat over 127 participants. Ace CARE operates solely on community philanthropy, and we work tirelessly to keep our doors open to those we serve.

Calling all commuter students! The dual student lounge is now open and recieving registrations! The common spaces in Hale Hall are now being opened to commuter students to allow for a more relaxed place to study, get some down time between classes, or have lunch! The spaces that are available include the game room, the kitchen and attached lounge area, and the computer lab. Registration is located on the second floor of Ridgway in the office of residence life. Access is granted 24-48 working hours after registration is complete.

The space operates on the same hours as Ridgway and swipe access is added to your student ID following registration!

We're hosting "Hometown Flavors," an event in the Eatery to showcase the favorite meals of our international students. Share your favorite recipe from home, and we'll feature it in the dining hall, letting everyone experience the diverse flavors of our campus. You can also include any special memories or stories about the dish. Let's celebrate your culture together!

UE Mathematics Assistant Professor Omid Khormali and his collaborators, UE Computer Science Assistant Professor Maxwell Omwenga, and UE students Andrew Thompson and Bakhrom Nasurullaev, are working to build and validate a bottom-up databasing system and a fully functioning portal for Forest Health data reporting and quantitative trend analyses.

The First Year Seminar Department would like to congratulate Eric D. Braysmith, adjunct professor of First Year Seminar, as he was awarded the Community Spirit Award from the Victory International Film Festival in Evansville on Saturday. They stated his dedication to the local film making community, running a community film series for nearly 30 years, and his work on the restoration of the Victory Theatre in the late 90s. His dedication to these projects and others have enriched the local film community in countless ways.

Dr. Diane Brewer has been appointed the new UE Honors Program Director. In addition to her role as a professor of theatre and the John David Lutz Distinguished Professor of the Arts, Dr. Brewer brings extensive experience to the position, having taught various honors courses and served on the Honors Program Faculty Advisory Committee (HPFAC) for several years.

Additionally, Jayme Williams, who previously served as the Honors Program Coordinator, has been appointed Assistant Honors Program Director.  As the Higher Learning Commission reaccreditation approaches, Dr. Brewer, Jayme Williams, and the HPFAC will be reflecting upon and evaluating the goals of the honors program. They aim to reimagine the future of the Honors Program, particularly through the application of principles and design processes enriched by the humanities.

We’ve been on the move! This past week, Harlaxton College made some exciting stops at Lindsey Wilson College (Columbia, KY), Western Kentucky University (Bowling Green, KY), Framingham University (Framingham, MA), and Young Harris College (Young Harris, GA)!

From meeting energetic students to sharing our one-of-a-kind study abroad experience, it’s been an incredible week of connection and inspiration. NASHVILLE – The University of Evansville women’s soccer team held the statistical advantage but couldn’t find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to the Belmont Bruins.

The Purple Aces had a hard fought battle on Thursday night to open Missouri Valley Conference action at Belmont. UE led in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks through the match but weren’t able to get the ball past current Valley Goalkeeper of the Week Sydney Jones. Thursday night’s match was only the fourth time Evansville has been shutout during the season.

The Aces controlled play early in the match, keeping Belmont off their offensive rhythm with strong defensive play. UE fired the first shot and shot on goal of the match from sophomore midfielder Ella Hamner (Evansville, Ind. / Memorial HS) in the fifth minute. Evansville added three more shots of the next 40 minutes with its closest chance of the half coming in the 32nd minute as senior midfielder Resse Simmons (Las Vegas / Shadow Ridge HS) forced a save from Jones.

But it was the Bruins who found the goal with only four minutes remaining in the first half, sneaking a ball past Aces goalkeeper Myia Danek (Laingsburg, Mich. / Laingsburg HS) in the 41st minute. It took UE the first few minutes to get going in the second half, but once Evansville found its rhythm the offense came quickly.

The Aces had back-to-back chances in the 59th minute with another shot on goal for Hamner and an almost open chance for sophomore midfielder Ashlyn Koutsos (Cumming, Ga. / West Forsyth HS). Koutsos fired a shot right in front of Jones but a quick foot from the Bruins defender kept UE scoreless. Evansville had another string of chances in the final 10 minutes from its freshman defenders.

Brielle LaBerge (Cumming, Ga. / West Forsyth HS) put her second shot of the game on net in the 80th minute to force a cross net save from Jones. Emmy Brenner (Arlington, Tenn. / St. Benedict at Auburndale HS) had the Aces final shot of the night in the 82nd minute from just inside the penalty box. The shot sailed just high of the crossbar, keeping UE scoreless in its first match of conference action.

Three separate players had multi-shot nights for Evansville. Hamner, LaBerge, and Brenner all had two shots each while both of Hamner’s shots landed on goal. Two other players recorded shots on the night for the Aces. UE returns home to continue MVC play on Sunday afternoon. Evansville will welcome Muray State to Arad McCutchan Stadium with kick-off set for 1 p.m. on the 22nd.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – With Missouri Valley Conference play beginning next week, the University of Evansville volleyball team is set for its final non-conference test this weekend with the USI Invitational.

Evansville faces USI on Friday at 6 p.m. before taking on IU Indianapolis at 2 p.m. on Sunday; ESPN+ will have the coverage of Friday’s match against the Screaming Eagles.  Both matches will take place at Screaming Eagles Arena.
