The September 2024 meetings of the University of Evansville Board of Trustees will be held on campus Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14, 2024. Parking in front of Olmsted Administration Hall and the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration will be reserved for University Trustees. Ace CARE is hosting our largest fundraiser, the Ace Race 5K, on October 26, 2024. We are asking for support from students and faculty so that we may continue to provide care to our most vulnerable neighbors. We welcome you to join us for the race to support our organization.

The mission of Ace CARE is to connect the unmet health care needs of the Tri-State community with the educational experience of our Doctor of Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Athletic Training students. We do this by providing free physical therapy care and group exercise programs to the uninsured, underinsured, homeless, and vulnerable members of our community to improve the quality of life in our surrounding area.

Last year, our students volunteered over 3,500 hours of their time, and we were able to treat over 127 participants. Ace CARE operates solely on community philanthropy, and we work tirelessly to keep our doors open to those we serve.

Brenda Miller, Administrative Assistant to the Psychology & Behavioral Sciences and Communications departments, will be retiring on September 13th, after 30 wonderful years of service at UE. There will be a reception to honor Brenda on Friday, September 13th from 2-3:30 pm in Hyde Hall 206 (the Dean's Conference Room). Please come and honor Brenda for all of her contributions to the College of Arts & Sciences and congratulate her on a terrific career at the University of Evansville.

Constitution Day is September 17.  This day commemorates September 17, 1787, the last day of the Constitutional Convention when the consitution was signed.

This year, UE will celebrate Consitution Day by having a three-judge panel of the Indiana State Appeals Court hear a case at UE.  This program is referred to as "traveling oral arguments" or "Appeals on Wheels".

Judges and attorneys for the appellant and the state will present and hear oral arguments on a case pending before the court.

The entire UE campus community is invited to attend this special event.

The case begins at 10:30 a.m. in Eykamp Hall, Ridgway University of Center.

*Academic Coaches are not tutors. They will not assist with homework, translation, etc. Please visit our tutoring sessions for specific homework/assignment help or utilize your instructor's office hours.

On a first-come-first-served basis, Facilities Management has 8' rectangular tables, white folding chairs, and extra trashcans for University use. We do not have round tables available for use outside of Ridgway Center (these are exclusively for that area). Requested items will be dropped off and picked up. Set-up is only provided when specifically requested with details for the arrangement.

Please complete the following to ensure your campus event setup occurs as desired.

1. Submit a work order request. In the Work Requested box, include ATTENTION MOVERS; the date, time, and location for drop off; number of 8’ rectangular tables, chairs, and trashcans; time of the event; pick-up date and time; and contact person’s name and phone number.
2. Moving Services requires at least 10 working days of advanced notification so we can schedule accordingly. If the request is submitted less than 10 working days, it is less likely we will be able to provide you with items needed.
3. Location, capacity, sprinklers/irrigation, and electrical needs should be considered in scheduling an event.
4. Reserve space in Resource Scheduler.

Please note, if you desire a different length or shape of folding table, arrangements will need to be made with an outside rental company.  Facilities Management can make these arrangements on your behalf.  Please allow for a longer lead time.  Once notified of your request, we will contact a rental a company to obtain a quote.  The rental order will not be placed until you approve the amount and provide an account number for the charge.

In April, Sylvia DeVault ’85 was promoted to Senior Director of Major Gifts and has recently relocated across the street to the MGO offices at 525 Rotherwood, where the remainder of the on-campus team is situated. In her new role, Sylvia oversees the Major Gifts Team while also continuing her duties related to corporate and foundation relations. The team is committed to exceeding the FORWARD Campaign goal by securing funding for scholarships, endowed professorships, capital projects, and other programmatic support.

Michelle Conklin has been a committed member of Advancement Services since 2021 and is now serving as the new Administrative Assistant for the Major Gifts Team. Michelle is excited to broaden her understanding of fundraising and grants from a new viewpoint as she continues her studies in the Organizational Leadership program at our university.

To best serve the needs of hourly employees at the University, the Accounting and Audit Office is updating the Payroll Policy. To ensure accurate hours are paid, we ask that each hourly employee complete a timecard at the end of each pay period.

Supervisors are asked to ensure their direct reports submit a timecard and then approve the time. If a supervisor has knowledge that an employee had hours worked during a pay period and the employee does not submit their time, they are required to notify Payroll by the pay period deadline to ensure employees are paid accurately. Supervisors have the ability to enter time in Self Service for any direct reports who did not complete their timecard.

Time should be submitted no later than 10:00 am on Monday following the end of the pay period. Supervisors should approve time by noon on Monday following the pay period end date. Instructions for entering time and approving time are available on the Accounting and Audit department page on the MY UE portal.

Please join the Office of Counseling and Disability Services in celebrating the latest accomplishment of Assistant Director of Disability Services, Debbie Brenton. She recently contributed to an article in the Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability with a group of co-authors. The article, titled "Evidence-Based Career Development: A Community of Practice for Disability Resources and Career Services Professionals", is a testament to the work Debbie and others on campus have been doing to not only provide students with disabilities an accessible educational experience but also opportunities for success and growth in their chosen career fields. She has worked closely with other departments, particularly with the Center for Career Development, to ensure students in her program have a well-rounded and holistic experience at the University. 

For those interested, the paper can be read here. In the future, it will be included in the AHEAD (Association on Higher Education and Disability) Database as a resource for other Disability Services professionals!

Congratulations, Debbie!

Sophia Caci is a UE Senior majoring in Archaeology and Anthropology. She had her first article published, “Disability Inclusion in Archaeology”, in June 2024 on the Enabled Archaeology Foundation website. During her semester at Harlaxton, Sophia conducted a research project comparing practices of Community Archaeology between the UK and the US. While conducting her research, she discovered the Enabled Archaeology Foundation (EAF) and had the good fortune to interview Sarahjayne Clements, communications officer, in March 2024 and discovered the important work EAF does in making the field of archaeology accessible to those with disabilities. She was later invited to use her research to write an article for the site and was excited and proud of the opportunity to share her insight. We are thrilled to announce that Harlaxton College was recently represented at the Study Abroad Fair at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa! As one of our newer partners, Drake University has already made a significant impact since joining us in 2023, sending 8 students and 2 faculty members to participate in our immersive fall semester program.

This visit also marked the exciting start of our fall recruitment season for the entire study abroad community—Drake was the first stop of many! We were excited to connect with students and share what makes the Harlaxton experience so unique. With our growing partnership and continued recruitment efforts, we’re confident that even more Bulldogs will be inspired to pursue the extraordinary with us in the future.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women’s soccer team picked up a point in its non-conference finale against the UT Martin Skyhawks.

The Purple Aces offense came alive Thursday night with a season-high 15 shots in a 1-1 draw against UT Martin. Freshman defender Emmy Brenner (Arlington, Tenn. / St. Benedict at Auburndale HS) scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 64th minute to give UE a 1-0 lead midway through the second half. But the Skyhawks found the equalizer in the 81st minute for Evansville to only come away with a point in the final game of the non-conference portion of the season.

The Aces began the game hot on offense with four shots and three corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the match. UE’s best chance to start the game came from freshman forward Taylor Johnson (Evansville, Ind. / Reitz HS) less than two minutes into the match. Johnson separated from her defender to challenge UT Martin goalkeeper Mac Titus on the right side.

The Skyhawks were able to counter on offense briefly, but Evansville took over momentum midway through the first half. The two teams spent the final 10 minutes of the half deadlocked, each getting two shots. The Aces headed into halftime with the statistical advantage, taking eight shots and five corner kicks in the first 45.

It was a slower start to the second half of the match as neither team found much momentum on offense. But after 15 minutes UE found its way back into the attacking third with three shots in three minutes. Evansville’s offensive attack led to Brenner’s first goal in the 64th minute. She headed the ball in off a cross from senior forward Hailey Autenrieb (Cincinnati / Seton HS) for Autenrieb’s second assist of the season.

The Aces held on to the lead for the next 16 minutes as the two teams battled end to end. But in the 81st minute, UT Martin found a brief opening from the middle of the penalty box tying the game up with a shot to the left side of the net. UE’s offense was able to get another close chance off in the 87th minute from sophomore midfielder Ella Hamner (Evansville, Ind. / Memorial HS). But the shot went just wide of the net and out of play for a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of action.

Evansville will begin Missouri Valley Conference action next week. The Aces will travel down south to Belmont to start MVC play on Thursday, September 19th. Kick-off from Nashville next week is set for 6:30 p.m.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Non-conference action continues this weekend with the University of Evansville volleyball team traveling to Morehead, Ky. for the Comfort Inn-Vitational. The Purple Aces will face Eastern Michigan, Duquesne, and Morehead State with the finale against MSU being carried on ESPN+.

- Hosting the Dunn Hospitality Tournament, the Aces dropped contests to Chicago State, Samford, and Miami Ohio

- UE had multiple positives throughout the weekend with Jenna Heidbreder and Chloe Cline setting career highs in kills while Lexi Owen had the top assist total of her career versus the Bulldogs

- In the three matches, Giulia Cardona paced the offense with 4.42 kills per frame

- Friday’s match against Samford saw Giulia Cardona move to second on the Aces all-time career kills list

- Cardona currently has 1,737 in her career and trails Alondra Vazquez’ total of 1,911

- Her season average of 4.68 kills per set paces the MVC and is 12th in the nation; she recorded 17+ kills in all three home contests

- In the win over UPR-Rio Piedras, Cardona accumulated 30 kills and wrapped up the first weekend with 5.00 kills/set

- Defensively, Cardona has recorded a team-high 3.14 digs per game

Stepping Up

- Sophomore Lexi Owen was in the starting lineup with Kora Ruff out and made a strong impact in the home tournament

- Owen registered a career-high 40 assists against Samford and averaged 9.33 per set over the course of the weekend

- Against Chicago State, Owen set career-bests in kills (2), attempts (5), and service aces (2)

Big Start

- Through the opening two weekends, Chloe Cline has made a giant leap from her freshman season

- Cline has recorded two 8-kill matches, her top UE totals

- She finished with 8 kills in 9 attempts vs. UPR before matching that total with 8 kills against Miami Ohio; she has 4+ kills in 5 out of 6 matches this season

- Helped by a .889 performance against UPR, Cline is hitting .443 on the season

- As a freshman, her top kill total was four against Chicago State

Scouting the Opposition

- Eastern Michigan comes into the weekend with a 2-5 record with victories over IU Indianapolis and Valparaiso

- Kaili Doctor and Kendal Bonney pace EMU with 2.43 and 2.30 kills per set, respectively

- Duquesne holds a 5-1 mark after going a perfect 3-0 in last weekend’s Chick-fil-A Robinson Classic where they defeated Niagara, Coppin State, and Robert Morris

- Emersen Schrom holds the team lead with an average of 3.14 kills

- Host Morehead State is 2-4 with two weekends in the books; they won the last two contests of last week’s Geri Polvino Invitational defeating Youngstown State and Radford

- M.E. Hargan paces the Eagles with 2.70 kills

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A busy opening week continues for the University of Evansville women’s golf team who will be taking part in the Cardinal Cup this weekend.

Hosted by the University of Louisville, the tournament runs Friday through Sunday at the UofL Golf Course.  Par is 72 and the yardage is 6,374.  The 54-hole event will feature 18 holes all three days.  Evansville is one of 15 teams slated to participate.

Kate Petrova led the Purple Aces in the season-opening Redbird Invitational.  A 3-over 75 in Monday’s final round saw her go 7-over for the weekend on her way to a tie for 14th place.  Behind her was freshman Louise Standtke.  Making her collegiate debut, Standtke registered a 227 while tying for 25th.

Finishing third for UE and tying for 49th in the final standings was Elizabeth Mercer.  Her 6-over 78 gave her a final tally of 235.  Fourth on the team was Mallory Russell.  Her Monday round of 78 gave her a 3-round score of 237, putting her in a tie for 60th place.  Jane Grankina and Trinity Dubbs had totals of 238 and 239, respectively.

As a team, the Aces came home in 10th place.
