* New Faculty

Juliet Aura, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology.
Dr. Aura graduated in 2009 from Kenyatta University with a bachelor degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. From Stephen F. Austin State University, she earned a Master’s in School Psychology in 2019 and a Doctorate in School Psychology in 2021.

Paige Baumann, Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing.
Professor Baumann graduated from the University of Louisville with a B.S.N. degree (summa cum laude) in 2017, and she received an M.S.N. degree from Ball State University in 2021. She is currently working towards a D.N.P. degree from Northern Kentucky University.

Debsmita Biswas, Clinical Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Dr. Biswas received her Bachelor of Technology degree in 2014 from West Bengal University of Technology. She earned her M.S. (May 2022) and Ph.D. (December 2022) degrees in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University.

Scott Carpenter, Visiting Assistant Professor, Technical Director/Production Manager.
Professor Carpenter is a 2007 University of Evansville graduate who holds a B.S. degree in Theatre Design and Technology.

Billie Chandler, Clinical Coordinator/Instructor for Physician Assistant Science Program.
Professor Chandler earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Marketing Emphasis from the University of Southern Indiana in 1996.

Kyle Clark, Visiting Assistant Professor of Archaeology.
Dr. Clark received his B.A. from the University of Oregon in 2012. In 2014, he earned his M.A. from Florida State University, and he received his Ph.D. in 2021 from the University of Missouri.

Emily Denne, Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology.
Dr. Denne is a University of Evansville graduate who earned her B.S. in Psychology and Minor in Studio Art in 2016. She also earned her M.S. in Social Psychology and Law in 2021 and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and Law in 2022 from Arizona State University.

Kayla Guzman, Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing.
Professor Guzman earned a B.S.N. degree from the University of Southern Indiana in 2014. She also earned her M.S.N. degree from Western Governors University in Nursing Education in 2022.

Matthew Harmon, Assistant Professor of Nurse Anesthesia.
Dr. Harmon holds an A.S.N. degree from Lincoln Memorial University from 2012, and his R.N. to B.S.N. degree from the University of Kentucky from 2013. He also earned a B.S.N. to D.N.P. degree in 2017 from Murray State University where he is currently pursuing an M.B.A. degree with a concentration in Healthcare Administration.

Tommy Housman, Instructor of Communication.
Professor Housman received a TC/AS/AAS degree in Visual Communications from Ivy Tech in 2016. From the University of Evansville, he earned a B.S. in Visual Communications Graphic Design in 2018.

Fahad Humayun, Assistant Professor of Communication.
Dr. Humayun graduated from National University of Sciences and Technology in Pakistan with a B.S. degree in Mass Communication in 2008. He received his M.A. degree in Media and Communication Science in 2014 from Ilmenau University of Technology in Germany. His Ph.D. degree in Journalism Studies was received in 2023 from the University of Colorado.

Liz Jenkins, Visiting Assistant Professor of Acting.
Professor Liz Jenkins is a UE graduate who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2005. She also received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of California-San Diego in 2008.

Doug Johnson, Lecturer, APR Grant Coordinator.
Professor Johnson holds a B.S. degree in Biology Education from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, from 1974. He also has his M.A. degree in Education of Gifted/Talented Children which he earned in 1981 from the University of Connecticut, Storrs.

Kim Johnson, Clinical Assistant Professor of Masters in Education Program/Coordinator.
Professor Johnson earned from Indiana State University her B.S. degree in Elementary Education in 1978 and her M.S. degree in Elementary Education in 1983. She also holds a license in Elementary Administration and Supervision from Indiana State University that she earned in 1996.

Darlena Jones, Assistant Professor of Nurse Anesthesia.
Dr. Jones graduated from Henderson Community College in 2002 with an A.D.N. degree. From Murray State University, she earned a B.S.N. degree in 2005 (summa cum laude). In 2009, she received an M.S.N. degree from THS/MSU Program of Anesthesia. In 2016, she received her D.N.P. degree from Murray State University.

Rachel Maurer, Clinical Assistant Professor of Music Therapy.
Professor Maurer is a UE graduate who received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2005 and a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy in 2006 with a minor in Psychology. From Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, she received a Masters of Arts in Music Therapy degree in 2011.

Aleksander Nagornay, Assistant Professor of Nurse Anesthesia.
Dr. Nagornay earned an associate degree in Nursing in 2006 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2015 both from Western Kentucky University. From Baptist Health-Murray State University Program of Anesthesia, he earned his Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree (Nurse Anesthesiology track) in 2019.

Wesley Oliver, Clinical Assistant Professor of Nurse Anesthesia and Director of Clinical Education.
Professor Oliver earned an Associates of Science in Nursing from Excelsior College in 2012, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arkansas in 2018. He also received his Masters in Nurse Anesthesia from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2021.

Jon Robertson, Sound Design Engineer for Creative Technologies.
Professor Robertson earned a B.M. degree in Music Composition in 2005 from the University of Arizona. He received an M.M. degree in Music Composition in 2011 and his M.F.A. degree in Sound Design in 2016 both from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Jessica Snow, Assistant Professor of Health Sciences.
Dr. Snow received a B.S. in Biology in French from the University of Illinois in 2003, and she received a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2009 from the University of New Mexico.

Clara Strong, Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing.
Professor Strong earned a B.A. in Psychology in 2016 from Antioch College, and her M.F.A. in Literature and Creative Writing in 2020 from Bennington Writing Seminars.

Michael Turlington, Assistant Professor of Chemistry.
Dr. Turlington graduated in 2016 from Furman University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. In 2021, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Fran Vile, Clinical Assistant Professor of Music.
Professor Vile earned his Associate in Applied Science in Music in 1980 from Onondaga Community College. He also earned his Bachelor of Music in 1982 from Ashland College. He then went on to receive a Master of Science in Music Education in 1984 from Indiana State University.

* Volunteers Needed | United Way Day of Caring

United Way of Southwestern Indiana's Day of Caring will be held on Friday, September 15! This is the largest service day in the area where volunteers give their time and energy to help non-profit organizations in Vanderburgh, Spencer, and Warrick counties.

This year, UE will continue to partner with the Buffalo Trace Council of the Boy Scouts of America, located at the Eykamp Scout Center. There are many different projects for volunteers to work on, such as general landscaping, pressure washing, organizing program supplies, and more! Participating employees WILL NOT need to use a vacation day but are required to obtain approval from respective supervisors.

* UE Men's Basketball Seeks Student Managers for 23-24 Season

The University of Evansville Men's Basketball program is currently searching for students who are interested in joining the program as student managers for the 2023-2024 academic year. Any full-time UE student, undergraduate or graduate, is welcome to apply. A good attitude and a strong work ethic are required.

Students interested in a manager position must be available for both practices and games. Practice is typically held in the afternoon during the week, as well as often on weekends. Managers should also be available to help with small group workouts during the fall and spring, in addition to accomplishing other tasks as needed.

Managers will get the opportunity to work at the Division 1 level and in the Missouri Valley Conference, of the nation's premier mid-major conferences. Managers will also get hands-on experience in collegiate athletics working with coaches, players, support staff, and administration. This position offers valuable real-world experience for any student who is interested in pursuing a career in sports administration, coaching, or a related field. Lastly, managers will experience an exciting, family-oriented environment that will positively impact their college experience.

In addition, managers will receive authentic team Nike Gear, and an opportunity to work their way up to traveling to away competition.

Congratulations

* Carol Dallinger serves on faculty of American Suzuki Institute

Carol Dallinger recently returned from serving as faculty member for the American Suzuki Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The American Suzuki Institute was the first Suzuki summer school of its kind in the United States at its inception in 1971 and has hosted an institute annually since then. A nationally known faculty teaches students ranging in age from 4 years old to high school seniors who are studying piano, guitar, flute, violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, and voice. The ASI also offers Suzuki Association of the Americas endorsed training for teachers for these instruments. Participants attending this year’s institute came from five countries and 30 states. Almost 200 students attended the two-week institute. Among them were students of three families who study in the UE Suzuki Violin Program.

Dallinger is Professor Emerita of Music and founder of the University of Evansville Suzuki Violin Program which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

* Professor Azarian Speaks at the National Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America (MathFest 2023)

Mohammad K. Azarian, Professor of Mathematics, presented a paper entitled, "Strategies and Challenges in Creating Original, Interesting, and Publishable Mathematical Problems" at the National Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America in Tampa, Florida, August 2-5, 2023.  Also, he co-chaired the contributed paper session, "Problem Creation and Problem Solving" which he co-organized.  He also served as a judge for undergraduate poster session, sponsored by MAA.

* UE men's soccer earns United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

For the seventh time in nine years, the University of Evansville men’s soccer team has been recognized for its academic performance.

On Wednesday morning United Soccer Coaches announced their 2022-23 College Team Academic Award Winners. With a 3.27 overall GPA through the academic year, the Purple Aces where one of 318 men’s teams named a Team Academic Award Winner. Evansville last earned the prestigious academic honor for the 2019-20 school year.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.

UE is one of 187 schools whose men’s and women’s programs both earned the College Team Academic Award. Evansville was also one of several Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) schools to make the United Soccer Coaches list including Belmont, Bowling Green, Bradley, Missouri State, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan.
