Thanks to everyone who voted in the first round of Mascot Madness! With your help, Ace Purple defeated Creighton's Billy Bluejay by a final score of 656-29 and is one step closer to being named the Valley's Best Mascot! Today, Ace takes on SIU's Grey Dawg in the semi-finals and we need the same support that we saw yesterday!

The voting process is the same, simply "like" the MVC Facebook page linked here: http://www.facebook.com/MissouriValleyConference?ref=ts. The poll will be posted around 9 a.m. today and voting runs till 4:30 p.m.

Grey Dawg ended the first round with 478 votes so we need ALL of our fans to put some pressure on the Salukis tomorrow! Please forward this on to students, friends, family and anybody that you know. We're going up against some much larger fan bases in this tournament and we want to make sure that this small campus shows some HUGE school spirit!

The summer healthy lifestyle challenge for employees and spouses begins June 25. This eight week event offers a different healthy behavior to practice each week. Based on points accumulated, the top four individuals will each receive a $50 gift card.  HRA insured will receive credit for their HRA account.  Complete rules can be found in Acelink>Human Resources>Wellness>Healthy Lifestyle Challenge.  Register at the Health Screening on June 25 or June 26.  This program is free to any UE employee or spouse.
 

The June Pcard Cycle began on May 22 and ends on June 21.  Pcards statements must  be reconciled and printed from SDG2 as of June 23 and submitted along with your receipts in a Pcard Envelope.  GL will upload on June 28.

Congratulations to Mark Cirino, assistant professor of English, who recently published a new book, Ernest Hemingway: Thought in Action.

Although much has been written about Hemingway's love of action — hunting, fishing, drinking, bullfighting, boxing, travel, and the moveable feast — Cirino looks at the author’s focus on the modern mind and interest in consciousness. Hemingway, Cirino demonstrates, probes the ways his characters’ minds respond when placed in urgent situations or when damaged by past traumas.

Cirino is the coeditor of Ernest Hemingway: Geography of Memory and the general editor of Kent State University Press’s “Reading Hemingway” series. He is also the author of two novels, Name the Baby and Arizona Blues.

Ernest Hemingway: Thought in Action is available from the University of Wisconsin Press. 

Tricia Hipp, Cataloging Associate at UE Libraries, correctly guessed each celebrity’s upside down portrait and her name was drawn on Monday, June 18 in the Celebrity Display Contest at the UE libraries.

Director of Student Accounts Becky Hamilton and her husband Richard Hamilton are the proud grandparents of a new baby girl, Isabelle Anne Hamilton. She was born June 19 and weighed 10 pounds and three ounces and was 21 inches long. Her parents are Kevin and Kelly Hamilton. Kevin is a 2004 UE graduate.
