Congratulations to members of UE's Concrete Canoe team, who earned their second highest finish in team history at the 25th annual ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition! The event took place June 14-16 at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Despite unexpected challenges, such as a canoe that broke in half before the final race, the team finished strong and took 12th place overall (7th in the technical paper category, 10th in oral presentation, and 13th in the races). UE was also the smallest school and the only private American university that qualified for the competition.
Team members who traveled to nationals are: Ryan Sisk, Heather Passey, Trevor Weaver, Shannon Osiecki, Matt Schutte, James Gabe, Chris Kuester, Josh Hood, Hannah Okray, Ricardo Paredes Aronsohn, Christina Bernauer, Abby Browder, Amanda Hopf, Luc Heidenreich, Katelyn Spainhour, David Wichman, and Jamie Johnson. The team's faculty advisor is Mark Valenzuela, associate professor of civil engineering.
