The difference is non-profits reinvest surplus funds into the organization to continue the promotion of its mission rather than paying share holders.

Junior Achievement of Southwest Indiana sponsored JobSpark for 8th grade students from southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 25 and 26, at the Old National Events Plaza. Over 3,600 students attended and took part in hands-on experiential activities designed to "spark" an interest in a future career path. UE was well represented with faculty, staff, and students from the programs in the School of Education, Schroeder Family School of Business Administration, School of Engineering and Computer Science, Doctor of Physical Therapy, School of Nursing, Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice, School of Health Sciences, and the Music Conservatory. Thanks to all who helped share the UE experience and our purple pride!

In its final event of the fall season, the University of Evansville men’s golf team competed as two squads and one individual while wrapping up just over one round at RTJ at Hampton Cove.

Evansville’s teams were divided into the orange team (veteran players) that includes Henry Kiel, Nicholas Gushrowski, Isaac Rohleder, Caleb Wassmer and Carson Parker.  The purple team consisted of the younger team members Daniil Romashkin, Masatoyo Kato, Michael Ikejiani, Luke Schneider and Mason Taylor.  Eli Rohleder played as an individual.

Totaling 302 strokes, the orange team is in 6th place, just one shot out of the top five with Arkansas-Pine Bluff just ahead.  Kiel and Gushrowski are tied for 12th place, shooting 2-over rounds of 74.  Isaac Rohleder is tied for 23rd following a 4-over 76.  Wassmer and Parker registered scores of 78 in round one and are tied for 37th.

Romashkin led the purple team with a 2-over 74 and is tied with three of his teammates for the 12th spot.  Included in that group is Eli Rohleder, who leads all individuals.  Kato carded a 77 in the first 18 holes to stand in a 30th-place tie while Ikejiani is one behind him with a 78.  Scores of 79 by Schneider and Taylor have them tied for 44th.

Lehigh University holds a commanding 13-shot lead following the first round.  With a score of 277, Lehigh leads Alabama A&M (290) and Alabama State (291).  Felipe Gomez Lopez of AAMU sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 6-under 66.  He leads the field by six strokes.

On the heels of a weekend that saw the University of Evansville volleyball team earn a pair of road victories, two of its players were recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference on Monday.

Alondra Vazquez garnered the league’s Player of the Week award while Kora Ruff was touted as the Freshman of the Week.  Vazquez earned Player of the Week recognition for the fifth time in her career while Ruff earned the freshman nod for the first time.

In a weekend where her performance could not have been more important, Vazquez averaged 4.75 kills and 3.75 digs per set while helping UE earn road victories at Valparaiso and UIC.  The matches were pivotal as UE looks to improve its spot in the league standings as the season hits the homestretch.

Vazquez opened the weekend with 19 digs and 24 kills in a 3-1 triumph over the Beacons.  Her 24 digs was a season-high.  She added three assists and a block assist.  Saturday’s road win over the Flames saw Vazquez put forth another 19-kill effort while adding six digs, two aces and an assist.  She hit .349 in the victory.

Ruff also had a strong weekend, averaging 11.75 assists, 3.00 digs and 0.63 service aces in road victories at Valparaiso and UIC.  Ruff started the weekend with 49 helpers in the win over the Beacons.  She tallied 14 digs and tied her career mark with four service aces.  On Saturday, she had the offense clicking once again, totaling 45 assists to go along with 10 digs, an ace and a kill.
