* Bestselling Author to Present on Native Plants

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Douglas Tallamy will be presenting on October 1, 2022, 6:00 p.m. in Eykamp Hall, Ridgway University center.

Join New York Times Best Seller author Dr. Douglas Tallamy to learn how the small actions we take as individuals can make a big environmental impact. Sponsored by the Warrick and Vanderburgh County Soil and Water Conservation Districts and the Southwest Chapter of Indiana Native Plant Society in collaboration with the University of Evansville's People for Pollinators ChangeLab and the Environmental Concerns Organization (ECO).

Doug Tallamy is Professor of Agriculture and Natural Resources for the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware. His first book, Bringing Nature Home, awakened thousands of readers to an urgent situation: wildlife populations are in decline because the native plants they depend on are fast disappearing. His solution? Plant more natives. In his second book, Nature's Best Hope, Tallamy takes the next step and outlines his vision for a grassroots approach to conservation. In his latest book, The Nature of Oaks, he is turning his advocacy to one of the most important species of the plant kingdom—oak trees.

This is a free event that is open to the public. Space is limited and registration is required. Register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dr-doug-tallamy-presentation-tickets-398905155057.

* MVC releases 2022-23 women's basketball conference slate

It's beginning to feel like basketball season as the Missouri Valley Conference has released the conference slate for the 2022-23 women's basketball season.

With the addition of new league members Belmont, UIC, and Murray State and the departure of Loyola-Chicago, teams are left with a 20-game conference schedule as opposed to the 18-game slate they had become accustomed to with the former 10-team league. This results in a schedule that features home-and-homes with nine opponents and single contests against two opponents.

For the first time since the 2017-18 campaign, Evansville will open conference play at home, welcoming Missouri State and SIU into Meeks Family Fieldhouse on December 29th and 31st, respectively. The first conference road trip of the season takes the Aces to Valparaiso on January 5th and new league member UIC on January 7th, a place UE has not played since 2017.

The Battle of 41 comes to Meeks Family Fieldhouse on January 11th when Indiana State comes to town before the schedule showcases the first of its changes as part of the 20-game format. On January 15th, Evansville will play UNI at home with a 6 PM tip-off, but does not play Drake at home, meaning the Aces will make a trip to Des Moines later in the year to face Drake, but will not travel to face UNI as part of the single-game sets against the two Iowa schools.

It's back on the road for the Aces on January 20th with a trip to Peoria, Ill. to face Bradley and new head coach Kate Popovec-Goss and the Braves, who Evansville split the series with a season ago. The trip to central Illinois concludes on January 22 in Normal, Ill. against the Illinois State Redbirds.

Two new league members in Murray State and Belmont come to town in the final weekend of January. On January 27th, Evansville continues what has been a yearly meeting with the Racers, following a tough 85-77 setback to Murray State last season. As frequently as Evansville and Murray State have squared-off, the opposite could be said about fellow newcomer Belmont. In what will be just the third all-time meeting between the two sides and the first since 1998, Belmont makes the trip to Meeks for a matchup on January 29th.

The longest road trip of the season begins on the first day of February for the Aces, beginning with the return trip in the rivalry with Indiana State on February 1st, followed by the aforementioned haul to face Drake on February 4th. Evansville's first conference road trips to Belmont and Murray State close-out the road swing on February 10th and 12th.

Evansville comes back to Meeks Family Fieldhouse for four of its final six contests of the regular season, beginning with a home weekend against UIC and Valparaiso on February 17th and 19th. The Aces close-out the road portion of the regular season on February 23rd and 25th at Missouri State and SIU. Finally, UE brings the regular season to an end at home, welcoming Illinois State on March 2nd and hosting Bradley on March 4th.

Regular-season play culminates with Hoops in the Heartland (March 9-12), as all 12 teams will compete in the MVC Tournament at Vibrant Arena at The MARK in Moline, Illinois.

Tickets can be purchased online at GoPurpleAces.com, by calling the UE Ticket Office at 812-488-2237, or by visiting the ticket office inside the Carson Center from 8:30 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
