UE Student and Employee Vaccine and Booster Clinic
|
|
The University of Evansville has partnered with Tri-State Community Clinics and Ascension St. Vincent to provide a UE Student and Employee Vaccination and a Booster Clinic on Monday, February 28, from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. CST.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BY FEBRUARY 21 AT 5:00 P.M. CST.
Students who are taking their first vaccine dose of the 2-dose protocol will make their second dose appointment (minimum of 21 days) at the vaccine clinic after they receive their first dose of vaccine.
The vaccines and boosters are available to all students regardless of residency or citizenship status. If you are receiving a booster or a second dose, make sure to bring your existing vaccination card with you to your appointment. You are eligible for a booster if you are over 12 years old and the date of your 2nd dose is on or before:
- Pfizer or Moderna - September 28, 2021 (5 months prior)
- Johnson & Johnson - December 28, 2021 (2 months prior)
If you do not meet these criteria, please do not register for an appointment for a booster shot at this time.

Spring Break with the Venturing Crew for $25

|
What are you doing for Spring Break? Are you interested in having an amazing adventure for only $25?
Join the UE Venturing Crew from March 5th thru the 8th as we backpack Red River Gorge, (an area of absolutely incredible beauty in Daniel Boone National Forest), stay at a luxurious cabin and on the last day, we will be doing a climbing experience like no other, Via Farrata.
We will leave campus early Saturday Morning.
Arriving at Red River Gorge around lunch time where we will eat at the trail head before beginning our trek.
We will spend Saturday night under the stars (in tents) and then wake up Sunday to see one of the most amazing views in the Gorge.
Sunday night we will be under the stars again and will work our way back to the vehicles Monday to have dinner at Miguel’s Pizza.
We will spend Monday night at a luxurious cabin reserved just for us.
Tuesday morning we will fill our tummies with a home cooked meal at the cabin before heading to do a Via Farrata style climbing adventure.
We will be returning back to campus Tuesday evening.
The price for this trip is only $25.
Don’t have the gear? The Crew has you covered from backpacks, sleeping bags to tents and cooking utensils.
Can’t afford $25, borrow it from a friend, check the couch cushions, anything, you need to go on this trip.
The $25 includes all fees, and food (except for 1 dinner at Miguel’s Pizza on your own).
Sign-ups start Thursday (2/17/2022) and will run through Wednesday in Ridgeway from 11am-1pm and 4-6pm.
You must sign up at the tables in Ridgway or email venturing@evansville.edu to schedule a time and place to sign up.
Again, this trip is only $25.

Village Housing Information Meetings
|
|
Students interested in living in Village housing (Jones Hall, Townhouses, Apartments, or Houses) next year should plan to attend an information meeting. The Villages are reserved primarily for students with 60 plus credit hours. In order to apply to live in the Villages, each person in your group must have at least 44 credit hours on file with the University by the end of the Fall 2021 semester.
Information meetings will be Tuesday, February 22, at 6:00pm and 9:00pm in Eykamp Hall, Room 252, Ridgway University Center. During the meetings, we will discuss how you can apply for Village housing for 2022-23.

Join UE Alumnus Jesse Schneider (Mechanical Engineering ’06) as he delves into his pathway through career development and continuous education. This presentation will discuss opportunities and challenges facing both current students and alumni. Q&A to follow.
Jesse is currently serving as the Director of Engineering for Kelley Engineered Equipment, LLC after working as a Project Engineer & Engineering Manager at Frontier-Kemper Constructors for 10 years. Since moving to KEE in May 2016 to further his career in mechanical design specializing in custom tunneling equipment, Jesse has led multiple projects through to completion. He earned a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Evansville in 2006, his MBA from the University of Southern Indiana in 2020, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Indiana, Nevada, New York, and Washington. In his spare time, Jesse enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids by either mountain biking or snow skiing.

We will spend the day immersed in Black history and culture at these two amazing centers in Louisville. After our time at each location there will be time to grab dinner at a local restaurant before hopping on the bus and heading back to Evansville. Sign-up in advance is required! Slips, Trips & Falls: Risk Management Tip
|
|
Slips, trips, and falls are a major cause of injury that occurs to both visitors and employees. They can occur in any business, but are of particular concern to businesses with considerable public and employee foot traffic such as those in retail, higher education, medical, and service industries.
What can you do to make a positive impact?
1) Be aware of your immediate surroundings
2) Wear comfortable, properly fitting non-slip shoes
3) Be aware of the type of surface you are walking on and its condition
4) Adjust to environmental and walking surface conditions
5) Pay attention to “Wet Floor” warning signs to warn of known hazards
6) Practice Good Housekeeping
7) Keep walkways and hallways free of debris, clutter and obstacles
8) Only carry items that allow you to see clearly where you are going
9) Use handrails when going up or down stairs and not skip steps
10) Eliminate or minimize distractions while walking, such as looking at your cell phone

Eykamp Prize: Call for Nominations
|
|
The Eykamp Prize was established by Richard and Rita Eykamp in 2015 to honor Faculty Achievement at the University of Evansville. Recipients of the prize will receive a one-time award of $10,000 in recognition of extraordinary contributions to the University of Evansville as University Citizens. Examples of such contributions include deep and successful involvement in recruiting students; expanding the number, scope, and competitiveness of grant funding for their department; bringing positive public awareness to the University through scholarship, knowledge, and understanding of their discipline.
Nominations for the Eykamp Prize may come from any member of the University of Evansville Community. Nominees should be tenured or tenure-track faculty members at the University of Evansville who have not received the award in the previous five years. Nominations can be submitted in writing or via e-mail to Michael Austin, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost, at ma352@evansville.edu by March 11, 2022. Nominations should include the name of the faculty member and a brief statement of the reasons that he or she is being nominated.
Recipients of the Eykamp Prize will be selected by an Award Committee, appointed by the EVPAA/Provost that includes members of the faculty, staff, administrators, and a member of the Board of Trustees. Awards will be announced and presented at the May Commencement Ceremony.

Dr. Bethany Huebner receives Adopt-A-Doc Scholarship Award at APTA's Combined Sections Meeting 2022
|
|
Dr. Bethany Huebner, Chair and Associate Professor of Physical Therapy, received the APTA Academy of Physical Therapy Education's Adopt-A-Doc Scholarship at the APTA's Combined Sections Meeting in San Antonio, TX. The APTA Academy of Education Adopt-A-Doc program seeks to increase the number of doctorally prepared PTs and PTAs by providing financial support to Academy members who are in the dissertation phase of their post-professional doctoral programs. Dr. Huebner entered dissertation phase of her PhD program in August 2021. Her dissertation is titled, "Feedback Matters, but Which Form is Best for Learning Post Computer-Based Assessments." She plans to defend in March 2022 with a May 2022 graduation.

Dr. Adam Grannan (DPT '21) presents his research at APTA Combined Sections Meeting 2022 in San Antonio, TX

Dr. Adam Grannan, a DPT graduate of UE in 2021, presented his research titled, "High Injury Risk Multisport Athlete: Discharged from Care at 6 months Following ACL Reconstruction" at the APTA's Combined Sections Meeting 2022 in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Grannan was assisted by DPT professors, Dr. Kate Schwartzkopf-Phifer and Dr. Phil Plisky in the development and dissemination of this research. Dr. Grannan is working at Johnson Memorial Health in Franklin, IN as a physical therapist.

Dr. Whetstone presents at APTA's Combined Sections Meeting 2022 in San Antonio, TX

Dr. Katie Whetstone, Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Clinical Education in the Department of Physical Therapy, presented her research titled, "Reliability of Visual Estimation for Quadruped Lumber-Locked Position in Determining Thoracic Rotation Mobility" at the APTA's Combined Sections Meeting in San Antonio. Dr. Whetstone's research team included Dr. Kyle Matsel, Assistant Professor, Dr. Kate Schwartzkopf-Phifer, Associate Professor, Sarah Gehres (DPT '22), and Andrew Patton (DPT '22). The APTA's Combined Section Meeting is the largest physical therapy conference held annually to highlight physical therapy research.

UE Swimming & Diving Breaks Another Record At MVC Championships
|
|
Another University of Evansville swimming record fell on Thursday, as freshman Sveva Brugnoli (Rome, Italy) lowered her own school-best mark in the 200-yard IM en route to being one of four Purple Aces to earn all-conference honors on the second day of the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championships in Iowa City, Iowa.
Brugnoli posted a time of 2:04.16 in the preliminary round to lower her own school record in the 200 IM. Brugnoli would eventually place eighth in the conference in the 200 IM to earn honorable mention all-MVC honors. She joined junior swimmer Sarah Jahns (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview) and divers Maddison Rollett (Evansville, Ind./Reitz) and Fae Keighley (Johannesburg, South Africa) to earn honorable mention all-MVC honors on Thursday.
“Today was a very good day for us,” said UE swimming head coach Stuart Wilson. “I really want to commend the divers, because every one of our divers did an outstanding job today. Both Fae and Maddie finished in the top eight, and Sarah (Kempf) and Maggie (Franz) were right there as well.
“Overall, we are pleased with how we have started off, but there is still work to do this weekend.”
Jahns earned honorable mention all-MVC honors by finishing sixth overall in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a personal-best time of 4:59.20 in the prelims and 5:00.25 in the “A Final.”
Rollett and Keighley placed sixth and seventh in the “A Final” on the one-meter diving boards with scores of 248.15 and 245.55, respectively, to earn honorable mention all-MVC honors.
Evansville also had strong showings in the “B Finals” on Thursday, as junior Maya Cunningham (Yakima, Wash./Eisenhower) finished second in the “B Finals” of the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.99, the second-fastest 200 IM time in UE history. Senior Jessie Steele (Houston, Texas/Klein) also finished third in the “B Finals” of the 50-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 23.50, which placed her fifth all-time on UE’s career list. Franz and Kempf also finished fifth and seventh in the “B Finals” for the one-meter diving competition as well.
Overall, Evansville finds itself in fourth place after two days of competition at the MVC Championships. Day three will feature competition in the 100 Butterfly, the 400 IM, the 200 Freestyle, the 100 Breaststroke and Backstroke, the 400 Medley Relay, and the three-meter diving boards. Preliminary rounds will begin at 11:00 a.m. with finals set for 6:00 p.m.

Fun-Filled Weekend Ahead for Aces in Meeks Family Fieldhouse
|
|
Building off a come-from-behind win over Indiana State last weekend, the University of Evansville women's basketball team wraps-up a three-game homestand with matchups against Valparaiso and Loyola on Friday and Sunday, respectively, inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse in Evansville.
Previewing the Matchup: Valparaiso
• Evansville and Valparaiso are meeting for the 22nd time in series history with the Beacons owning a 13-9 lead in the all-time series.
• Earlier this season, Evansville built a 16-2 lead in the first quarter before the Beacons stormed back to capture the 74-62 win on Jan. 23 in Valparaiso, Ind.
• Friday's contest is the second of five home games to close the season for the Aces over the last seven contests of the regular season.
• Over the last five seasons, when Evansville has split the season series with Indiana State, it has also split the season series with Valparaiso, doing so in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
• Friday night's game features two of the top three players in The Valley in minutes played per game with Abby Feit averaging 34.3 minutes per contest and Valpo's Shay Frederick averaging 34.2 per game.
Previewing the Matchup: Loyola Chicago
• Evansville and Loyola are meeting for the 43rd time in series history with the Ramblers owning a 30-12 advantage in the all-time series.
• In the first meeting this season, the Ramblers captured a 68-54 win over the Aces in Chicago on Jan. 21. In that game, junior Abby Feit became the 21st member of UE's 1,000 point club.
• Loyola currently sits fifth in the MVC standings in a crowded middle portion that features four teams withing two games of one another.
Limiting Giveaways
• The Aces have gotten on a stretch of games where they have excelled of taking care of the basketball.
• Over the last five games, Evansville has recorded less than 20 turnovers in each contest, its longest such streak since the 2018-19 campaign.
• In three of the five games, UE has recorded 11-or-less turnovers.
Third Weekly Award for Je'Naiya
• In a pair of Valley games, junior Je'Naiya Davis returned to her high-scoring ways.
• The St. Louis, Mo. native reached double-figures in both contests this week, averaging 19.5 points to go along with four boards per game.
• Davis dropped a team-high 19 points in a road matchup with UNI on Tuesday, falling just shy of 50% shooting from the field.
• On Saturday night against Indiana State, Davis again notched a team-high in scoring, pouring-in 20 points on the Sycamores as Evansville battled back from an 18-point deficit to capture a 58-56 win.
• The junior now leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game and sits fourth in The Valley in the category, the highest newcomer in the league in scoring average.

Season opens Friday for Aces at No. 10 NC State
|
|
Coming off another winning season, the University of Evansville baseball team looks to continue to show itself as a program on the rise with a three-game set against 10th-ranked NC State, beginning on Friday at 2 PM in Raleigh, N.C.
Previewing the Matchup: No. 10 NC State
• The Aces and Wolfpack meet for the first time ever with the weekend three-game series in Raleigh, N.C.
• Evansville holds a 45-62 all-time record against current members of the ACC with .500-or-better records against Boston College (2-0), Louisville (28-27), Virginia (1-0), and Wake Forest (2-2).
• Over the last 10 seasons, the Aces are 4-6 in season openers and are 3-4 all-time against Power 5 teams in season openers since joining NCAA Division I in 1977, including a 3-2 win over 12th ranked Georgia last season.
Returning Pitching
• The bulk of Evansville's pitching staff returns in the white and purple for the 2022 campaign.
• Of the 455 innings pitches by the Aces' staff, Evansville brings back pitchers who pitched 364.2 innings, including 22 of 28 wins and the top three pitchers in ERA (Drew Dominik, Shane Gray, and Jakob Meyer).
Going Up Top
• The Aces smashed 45 home runs a season ago and the 2022 campaign should see little drop-off in that department.
• Both of the Aces top power hitters return with Tanner Craig recording a team-high 12 homers last season and Danny Borgstrom, who tallied nine ding- ers, returning to the fold for 2022.

Softball travels to Easton Bama Bash

Off to its first 5-0 start in at least 20 years, the University of Evansville softball team will play some of the top competition in the nation this weekend as the Purple Aces head to the Easton Bama Bash. UE will face #2 Alabama in a single game while taking on #8 Virginia Tech and Middle Tennessee State in two games apiece. Friday’s contest against the Crimson Tide will be televised on the SEC Network+.
Last Time Out
- Opening the 2022 campaign at the Best on the Bayou Classic on Monroe, Louisiana, the Aces reeled off five victories to open the year with some momentum
- After taking down defending Southland Conference regular season champion Stephen F. Austin by a 5-0 final in the opener last Friday, UE completed the day with a 4-0 win over Morehead State in nine innings
- Saturday’s action featured a come-from-behind 9-8 win over Southern before a no-hitter from Izzy Vetter highlighted a 14-0 triumph over Mississippi Valley State
- In the finale against SIU Edwardsville, the Aces capped off the weekend with an 11-3 win
Another No-Hitter
- Izzy Vetter completed the 2021 regular season with a no-hitter in the final weekend against Bradley and picked up right where she left off to open 2022, tossing another no-no on 2/12 against Mississippi Valley State
- Vetter was at her best to open the season, tossing 17 innings in the first weekend without giving up a single earned run
- On Feb. 15, she was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career
- She fanned 30 batters while allowing the opposition to hit just .103
- Her strikeout tally is seventh in the nation while her strikeouts per seven innings is 17th
- As a junior, Vetter struck out a total of 199 batters, which ranked 28th in the NCAA
Newcomer of the Week
- Sydney Weatherford could not have had a better start to her college career in Monroe, leading the Aces with 10 RBI while throwing 10.2 innings without giving up an earned run
- For her efforts, Weatherford garnered MVC Newcomer of the Week honors on 2/15
- The freshman batted .400 in the opening weekend, picking up eight hits in 20 at-bats while adding four runs, three triples and a home run
- Weatherford’s three triples is the second-highest tally in the NCAA while her 10 runs batted in is 11th in the country
- In the circle, Weatherford threw 10.2 innings and allowed three unearned runs while striking out nine
- She earned the win on 2/12 over Southern
Picking Right Up
- Highlighting the opening weekend of play for sophomore Marah Wood was a 3-4 game against Mississippi Valley State that saw her hit her first home run of the year while adding a career-high four runs scored and two RBI
- Wood finished the Best on the Bayou Classic batting .400 with five runs scored and a total of four RBI
- In 2021, Wood set the program mark for most homers by a freshman with 11
- The 3-time MVC Newcomer of the Week had 32 RBI, 5th most by a UE freshman since 1994
Two Game Winners
- Alexa Davis recorded a pair of game-winning hits in the Best on the Bayou Classic on her way to an unreal .750 batting average
- Davis broke a scoreless tie against Morehead State last Friday, hitting an RBI double in the 9th inning of a 4-0 win before coming through a day later against Southern
- With the score tied at 8-8 in the bottom of the 7th, Davis hit a walk-off single
- She scored five runs and had four RBI to open the season
First Homer
- A nice start to the 2022 season saw Hannah Hood record 9 hits in 19 at-bats to finish the Best on the Bayou Classic with a .474 average
- Highlighting the weekend was a 3-for-4 effort versus Mississippi Valley State that included the first home run of her career
- Hood’s three hits and four RBI were single-game highs for the junior
- She matched the 3-hit game in the weekend finale versus SIUE
- A member of the MVC All-Defensive squad in 2021, Hood was an excellent baserunner as a sophomore, going a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen base tries
Taking the Next Step
- Jenna Lis enjoyed a nice opening weekend, hitting .467 seven hits in 15 at-bats in the Best on the Bayou Classic
- Lis scored three runs and walked four times, finishing with a .579 on-base percentage
- She recorded three hits in the win over Southern, the first 3-hit game in her Aces career
