GRADES NOT MONITORED MID-YEAR FOR SCHOLARSHIP/ FINANCIAL AID RENEWAL
|
|
As we approach the end of the fall semester, the Office of Financial Aid would like to clarify our policies regarding students’ academic performance and its connection to scholarship and financial aid renewal. The Office of Financial Aid does not monitor grades or credit hours earned after the fall semester. The stated Grade Point Average and credit-hours-earned standards that govern UE scholarships and all aid eligibility are monitored each MAY.
Therefore, if your GPA dips below the required minimum at the end of the fall semester, you have the spring semester to restore your cumulative GPA to the necessary level. Aid is neither reduced nor restored in mid-year. (The exception is a student who is using a semester of conditional financial aid for fall under a specific appeal plan.)
See the full policies for the renewal of UE Merit-based Scholarships, as well as maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress for the renewal of all forms of aid, including federal loans. Please direct your questions to the UE Office of Financial Aid at financialaid@evansville.edu, or 1-800-424-8634 or 812-488-2364.

Marshall Steals Aces Winter Classic Title With, 60-48, Defeat
|
|
The University of Evansville women’s basketball team finished second in their tournament for the second straight year as the Marshall University Thundering Herd logged 15 steals en route to a 60-48 win in the title game of the Aces Winter Classic. The Aces now own a 2-6 record on the season, while Marshall improved to 5-2.
Junior Samantha Heck earned all-tournament honors, averaging 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, also totaling 10 assists across the two days. Against Marshall, the 6’2 center recorded 12 points and eight boards. Classmate Meagan Collins had a game-high 16 points, hitting 9-of-10 free throws.
Collins sparked Evansville from the tip, scoring UE’s first seven points of the game and gave the Aces an initial 6-0 head start. However, the Herd quickly turned the game’s momentum into their favor, going on a 12-2 run to take a 15-9 lead at the 9:45 mark.
UE responded with another 6-0 run, capped by sophomore Hannah Weedman’s layup on a dump down pass from Briyana Blair to tie it up 15-15.
However, Marshall held the Aces scoreless for the next 5:04 minutes, a scoring drought ended by Taylor Ware’s put-back with 51 seconds remaining, as the Herd built a 10-point (27-17) halftime advantage.
Out of the break, Marshall steadily stretched their lead to 16 points at the 16:55 mark and held a double-digit advantage until the clock hit seven minutes when Blair capped an 8-0 Aces run with a layup. Sophomore Katie Ellerson knocked down a three and added two free throws in the comeback.
The Herd built their lead back up to 14 before Evansville cut it back to eight with a 1:54 remaining.
With time running out, UE was forced to put the Herd at the line and Marshall sunk 4-of-6 from the charity stripe to preserve the Aces Winter Classic title.
UE shot 26.0 percent (13-50) from the floor and 17.6 percent (3-17) from behind the arc, while the Herd recorded a 33.9 field goal percentage (19-56) and 57.1 three-point percentage (4-7).
Marshall also won the battle of the boards with a 44-35 advantage led by all-tournament selection Erica Woods’ double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds and tournament MVP Alyse Poindexter’s 10 points and 10 boards. With a balanced scoring attack, four Marshall players hit double figure points, piloted by Jasmine Shaw’s 15.
In the consolation game played earlier in the afternoon, Eastern Kentucky topped Chicago State, 67-56.
The Aces are back in action next Saturday, hosting the Murray State Racers at 2:00 p.m. CT at the Ford Center. The meeting will mark a rematch of November 11th’s season-opener in which the Aces fell 76-61.
All Tournament Team
Alyse Poindexter – Marshall – MVP
Erica Woods – Marshall
Samantha Heck – Evansville
Alex Jones – Eastern Kentucky
Natalie Marlowe – Chicago State

Ryan's 31 Not Enough As TCU Tops Evansville, 70-68
|
|
Junior Colt Ryan scored 31 points, but it was not enough as TCU grabbed a 70-68 overtime win against the University of Evansville men’s basketball team on Saturday at the Ford Center.
Ryan led all players with 31 points. He hit 7-of-17 shots while hitting 14 out of 16 free throws. He was the only UE (3-3) player in double figures. TCU (6-2) was led by a 21-point game from Hank Thorns.
A defensive struggle ensued in the first half as the teams combined to connect on just 15 field goals as the Horned Frogs took a 25-21 lead into halftime. Colt Ryan helped UE gain an early 8-4 lead after opening up the scoring with a trey just over a minute in. TCU scored five points in a row, including a three courtesy of Connell Crossland, to go back on top.
In a half that featured eight lead changes, the Aces jumped back on top with a 5-0 run when the score was tied at 13. A pair of Denver Holmes free throws followed by another Ryan three-pointer saw UE go up 18-13 with 8:20 left in the half.
The TCU defense clamped down at that point, holding UE to just three more points in the half while they rallied to take a 25-21 advantage. Evansville missed their final ten shots of the stanza while committing three turnovers in the final eight minutes. UE shot just 22.7% in the period (5-15) while the Horned Frogs were 10-of-24. J.R. Cadot was a perfect 3-3 from the floor in the half to lead the Horned Frogs with six points. Helping the Aces stay in the game was their defense as they forced TCU into 10 first-half turnovers.
Three early turnovers in the second half saw TCU extend its lead to nine points with 16 minutes left in the game. Cadot scored five early points to assist in the run. Troy Taylor hit a jumper with 16:52 remaining marking the first UE basket in over 11 minutes of action, but two turnovers led to four Horned Frog points as they took a 34-25 lead.
Down 34-28, the Aces put together a quick 5-0 spurt to get within four points. After Kenneth Harris hit a layup, Colt Ryan knocked down his third trey of the game to cut into the deficit. Another Ryan shot, followed by the ensuing free throw cut the game to one before an Adrick McKinney bucket ended the streak.
Evansville fought back with another run as Ryan Sawvell knocked down a basket and, following two missed free throws by TCU, Ned Cox scored his first points of the game to give UE a 40-39 lead.
An interesting final six minutes would later ensue. A barrage of free throws saw the lead switch hands. TCU held a 49-48 lead with six minutes left, but six straight free throws from Ryan game UE a 5-point advantage. A quick spurt by the Horned Frogs saw them hit four free throws in a row following a pair of UE fouls.
With the game tied at 59-59 in the final minutes, Ned Cox hit a layup and free throw to put the Aces up by three with 34 seconds left. Hank Thorns came right back, knocking down a three of his own to tie the game. Cox missed a pair of shots in the final seconds as the game went to overtime.
The extra period saw TCU score the first two points before UE notched four in a row to go up 64-62. With the Aces clinging to a 68-66 lead with a minute remaining, Thorns struck again with a bucket to tie it up. Following a missed UE shot, Thorns slashed though the paint to score what would be the winning shot with two seconds remaining.
One of the main factors in the contest was rebounding as TCU finished with a 41-27 lead. After a slow shooting first half, both teams shot over 50% in the second period.
Ryan was the leading scorer and rebounder for UE. Troy Taylor and Denver Holmes each scored eight. Three TCU players were in double figures, led by Thorns’ 21-point effort. J.R. Cadot had 13 while Amric Fields notched 12.
A trip to North Carolina is next up for the Aces as they will be in Chapel Hill on Tuesday. ESPNU will carry the game, which is set for a 6 p.m. tip.
