They are on a tight deadline and the crew may need to direct the flow of walking traffic through those areas of campus between noon and 3 p.m. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

* UE Men's Soccer Battles, But Falls, 1-0, to Butler

In a hard fought battle on both sides of the field, the University of Evansville men’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to the visiting Butler Bulldogs Saturday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium. With the non-conference defeat, the Purple Aces now own a 5-7-1 overall record, while Butler improved to 6-6-2.

The Bulldogs tallied the lone goal of the game in the 37th minute of play. Jordan Burt led a two-on-one charge and crossed the ball to Austin Oldham, right to left, across the mouth of the goal. Oldham’s chip past goalkeeper Eric Teppen marked his sixth score of the season.

In the first half, UE had some good opportunities at the net, outshooting Butler, 9-5 and 5-4 on goal. However, goalkeeper Jon Dawson stopped them all, tallying five saves. In the entire contest, the Bulldogs edged the Aces 13-11 on shots and 8-6 on shots on goal.

Senior Tad Kreamalmeyer and junior Jesse Sharp led Evansville with two shots apiece, all on goal. Sophomore Alex Kapsalis also registered two shots.

In net, Teppen recorded seven saves in the match, while Dawson finished with six.

The Aces are back in action Wednesday when Evansville plays host to No. 13 Indiana University at 7 p.m. at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

* Creighton Sweeps Past Volleyball

Heather Thorson notched a match-high 14 kills as Creighton swept past the University of Evansville volleyball team on Saturday evening in Omaha.

Evansville (12-14, 2-9 MVC) was led by Brooke Maher, who tallied 12 kills and 10 digs while Hannah Wilson had another solid performance with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Creighton (13-10, 8-3 MVC) led wire-to-wire in the first set, but had to hold off a late UE rally.  The Bluesjays jumped out to a 17-11 lead before and would hold a 6-point advantage (20-14) before the Aces mounted a late comeback.

A Wilson kill set UE on a 3-0 run, which would be extended into a 9-4 rally to trail by just a point, 24-23.  A Megan Bober service error gave UE their 23rd point, but she would make up for it on the next point, assisting on a Karisa Almgren kill to give CU the win.

Game two saw Evansville jump saw Evansville take an early 7-3 lead as Lauren Seyller had a pair of kills to open the set.  Eight ties ensued, but with the game knotted at 14-14, Creighton scored the next three and would not look back, taking a 25-21 win.

Another competitive game took place in the third set as it featured 11 ties.  The Aces had a couple of two-point leads before taking their largest advantage at 20-17.  A 5-2 spurt by Creighton tied the game at 22 and they would continue what would finish up as a match-ending 8-2 run as they would complete the sweep.

Ellen Sawin led the Aces with 21 assists while Jenn Murphy checked in with 16.  Katie Klages was one of three UE players to finish with double-digit digs, leading the way with 14.

Aside from Thorson’s match-high 14 kills, Karisa Almgren notched 12.  Julianne Mandolfo led all players with 16 digs while Megan Bober had 23 assists.

On Friday, Evansville will be back in action at the Carson Center, taking on Southern Illinois at 7 p.m.

* UE Women's Soccer Sails Past Drake, 3-0, On Senior Day

After a scoreless stalemate in the first period of Sunday’s contest, the University of Evansville women’s soccer team chalked up three unanswered goals in the second half, earning a 3-0 Senior Day victory over the visiting Drake Bulldogs. Sophomore Breana Beine led the offense with two goals, while junior goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison led the defense with seven saves and the shutout.

In the deadlocked first half, both squads took four shots. However, things heated up in the second stanza as Drake (12) and Evansville (11) combined for 23 shots.

The Aces broke onto the scoreboard in the 67th minute of play when sophomore Stephanie Thompson lobbed an arching pass into the middle of the box. The ball hit off the back of classmate Kaitlin Robinett and her defender as they both went for the header, and snuck past goalkeeper Kalena Litch.

In the 88th minute, Beine took command, and led a breakaway down the left side of the field. Her shot between two defenders found the back right of the net and gave Evansville a comfortable 2-0 lead with just minutes remaining.
However, Beine was not done yet. From almost the exact same spot on the field, the native of St. Peters, Mo. had a shot on an open net after Litch came too far out of the box in attempt to slow up Beine. The goal, 70 seconds after the previous, marked her third of the season.

Beine led the squad with eight shots, including five on goal, as UE recorded 15 shots and a season-high 10 shots on goal. The win improved Evansville’s record to 2-11-4 overall and 1-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-10-4 on the season and 1-4 in the Valley.

In a pregame Senior Day ceremony, senior defenders Sam Conrad and Kasey Cartwright, along with student assistant coach Colleen Marty and student athletic trainer Garrett Dugger, were honored for their contributions to the women’s soccer program.

The Aces close out the regular season Thursday when they play host to Missouri State at 7 p.m. at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
