The Department of Art’s annual Holiday Art and Crafts Sale is planned for today in the Melvin Peterson Gallery. Doors open at 7:00 a.m. and the sale will continue until 6:00 p.m.

Items for sale may include paintings, pottery, jewelry, soaps, knitted items, greeting cards, purses, bags, and wooden items. All items in the sale are handmade and designed by the artist or craftsman.

We are proud to announce that the University of Evansville is partnering with the Salvation Army during this holiday season and supporting their bell ringing efforts! We are looking for volunteers to help for two-hour shifts on Saturday, December 3, from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at Schunck’s on Washington Avenue in Evansville. Tell your friends as we can host up to four volunteers per shift!

Deadline to register is Wednesday, November 30.

The Brazilian Student Association (BRASA) is looking for candidates for its executive board for Spring 2017. People interested in learning more about Brazil, Brazilian culture, Latin America, and the Portuguese language are encouraged to apply. Members have access to a large network of people and companies both in the US and in Brazil.

Positions require commitment of about four hours per week.

UE’s study abroad office would like to extend its sincerest congratulations to Jennifer Riedford, who was recently awarded the Russel and Deborah Taylor Foundation Scholarship from AIFS to study abroad.

Riedford is a Spanish education major and will be studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain, during the Spring 2017 semester.

She is looking forward to the chance to experience both academic development and personal discovery during her time abroad. One of her main goals is to get a more complete understanding of the Spanish language and everything that comes with it.

“With the language comes the culture, the people, and an entire new way of experiencing life,” said Riedford.

She hopes this experiences culminates in a way that will make her a great Spanish teacher in the future.

Riedford expects her time abroad to be “a defining moment in my academic career, and I plan to take full advantage of the knowledge and experience waiting for me in Salamanca.”

Anna Maurer-Batjer, a UE alumnus, is the coauthor of a paper titled "Capturing Experiences of Youth With ASD via Photo Exploration Challenges and Resources Becoming an Adult" that was recently published in the Journal of Adolescent Research. She is also a co-author of a paper titled “Reframing Autism: Young Adults with Autism Share Their Strengths Through Photo-Stories,” recently published in the Journal of Pediatric Nursing.

Robert Dion, department chair for Law, Politics, and Society, gave a lecture in Owensboro on Thursday night, entitled, “Post-Election Analysis:  Making Sense of the Changing Electorate.” He was invited to be a part of the ongoing lecture series sponsored by the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council, an organization that describes itself as “committed to empowering citizens to participate in world affairs through dialogue and education, providing information and expertise on current international, political, economic, and social issues, [and] helping people relate their local concerns to global issues.” The talk was held at Owensboro Community and Technical College in Kentucky.
