The Gift of Fear

Orchestra and String Ensemble Auditions
|
|
Auditions for the University Symphony Orchestra and the String Ensemble will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, and Friday, Aug. 26. Audition sign-up sheets are posted across the hall from Room 101 in the Fine Arts Building. Interested students are asked to prepare an audition lasting no longer than five minutes, consisting of a scale and the student’s favorite musical piece. The University Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform two concerts this fall and the String Ensemble will perform one formal concert, but will add a few lighter, smaller concert appearances. This is a great, fun opportunity to get together and make music with your friends and fellow students! Intramural soccer registration is now open. Registration will be open until Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 11:55 pm. To sign up a team, please visit www.IMLeagues.com. Registration instructions can be found on our facebook group, University of Evansville Intramurals. New students are invited to tour UE Libraries during opening days of fall semester. Tours will highlight key library services offered to students. Each tour will last 20minutes and will be led by a member of the Libraries’ staff. Tour times are noted below. No reservation is required. We’ll meet you in the entry lobby of the Library. Last Day to Add Class Is Tuesday, August 30
|
|
Tuesday, Aug. 30, is the last day to add a class for the fall semester. It is also the last day to drop a class without a ‘W’ grade appearing on your transcript. If you want to change your schedule, be sure to complete a yellow add/drop form (available in the Registrar’s Office in Olmsted Hall), get your advisor’s signature on the form, and return the form to the Registrar’s Office no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

2011 Fall Phonathon Needs Callers!
|
|
The Office of Annual Giving is looking to hire several highly motivated and enthusiastic students to be student callers for the 2010 Fall Phonathon Program Phonathon. Student callers contact UE alumni and friends to raise money for student scholarships and financial assistance. Telemarketing and/or sales experience are not required, but preferred.
Fall Phonathon will be held Sept. 12 through Nov. 17 in Room 1 in Hyde Hall. Calling sessions will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m. and Monday through Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Callers should be available for at least 2 sessions per week, and must complete a training session before calling begins. Pay is $8.25 per hour, and additional cash incentives and giveaways may be earned. This is excellent work experience and a great resume builder!

Join the University Band!
|
|
You are invited to join the University Band. All students who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument are welcome to come participate. This is a group made up of musicians of all levels of ability who enjoying playing but are not necessarily interested in majoring in music. There are no auditions, and all are welcome. The University Band rehearses one night a week, Mondays from 4-5 p.m. The band performs one concert on Nov. 28, and also performs at home basketball games. Marshall Ray
|
|
University of Evansville Associate Head Men’s Soccer Coach, Marshall Ray, will be inducted into Marshall County High School’s Athletic Hall Of Fame tonight at the Kenneth Shadowen Performing Arts Center on the campus of Marshall County High School following a dinner at 5:30 p.m. Ray will be one of six individuals to receive the honor in the 2011 induction class.
A Marshall County soccer player from 1990-1995, Ray was All-District and All-Region in 1992 and 1994. He was named first team All-State his senior year in 1994.
Continuing his soccer career at the University of Evansville, Ray was a member of the 1996 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship team that reached the NCAA Tournament. He played defender and forward, and was an MVC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week during his career. Ray received UE's Ian Coull Award in 1999 for competitive spirit and teamwork, and was on the NSCAA Scholar-Athlete all-region team.
After playing professionally for the A-League Nashville Metros in 2001, Ray spent four years at Drury University. He became the youngest Division I head coach in the country in 2003 at age 25 after two years as Drury’s assistant coach.
Ray spent the 2005 season involved with recruiting, player development and day-to-day operations for the Duke Blue Devils, who won the ACC Tournament and were nationally ranked that year.
Ray returned to UE when Mike Jacobs made the move from Duke assistant to UE’s head coach in 2006, and made Ray his first choice for assistant coach.
Ray holds a USSF A license and studied under Pierre Barrieu, U.S. National Fitness Coach, to obtain a USSF National Fitness Level I license. He holds an NSCAA Advanced National License. Ray serves as Midwest Regional Chair for the NSCAA/Performance Subaru Division I All-America Committee, and as a coach led FC Evansville to IYSA state championships in 2009 and 2010.
Ray and the other inductees will also be honored Aug. 26 during halftime of the Marshall County versus McLean County football game.
