Upcoming Events

* UE Theatre Presents "Marriage" in May Studio Theatre

The University of Evansville Department of Theatre opens Marriage, by Nikolai Gogol, Friday Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m., in the May Studio Theatre. The show will continue with performances at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, and at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Considered to be one of Gogol’s best works, Marriage is a quick-witted play which examines the titular institution. Set on a cold afternoon in St. Petersburg, this satirical story follows the misdeeds of Podkoliosin, an indecisive bachelor, who is forced to wed before the day is out. However, he must first win the affections of Agafya, an anxious young bride seeking the perfect gentleman. Utter chaos ensues! This hysterical play probes the merits of marriage and questions the responsibility of such “holy” unions.

Glyne Pease, a senior theatre performance major from Las Vegas takes the helm as director of the production. The cast includes seniors Henry Ragan, from Herndon, Va.; Erdin Schultz-Bever, from Bloomington, Ind.; TJ Baldassare, from Westminster, Colo.; Brogan Lozano, from San Antonio; Carter Caldwell, from Louisville, Ky.; DéYonté Jenkins, from Portland, Tenn.; junior Sam Schanwald from Pittsburgh; sophomores Kira Vuolo, from Westminster, Colo.; Jennifer E. Cunic, from Knoxville, Tenn.; freshmen Kristopher Adams, from Houston; Kathleen Finch, from College Station, Texas; and Julia Toney, from San Antonio.

* Higher Learning Commission Campus Visit: February 29 – March 2

The University of Evansville will host a visit February 29 - March 2, 2016, with a team representing its regional accrediting agency, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

The team will review the institution’s ongoing ability to meet the commission’s Criteria for Accreditation, standards of quality that institutions are expected to address. The Criteria emerge out of a set of guiding values that are grounded in shared tenets of the academic community.

Because the standards against which UE will be evaluated are common expectations at colleges and universities, looking at our policies, practices and outcomes will be more than just an exercise in accountability. It will be an opportunity for us to respond to those things that matter both to us at UE and to the larger higher education community.

* Dolphy Scores His First Goal of the Year in Aces' Road Loss

The University of Evansville men’s soccer team (2-11) suffered a 4-2 road loss at Lipscomb University (5-8-1) on Tuesday night. The Purple Aces held a 2-1 lead just 19 minutes into the match, but the Bisons scored the final three goals of the night for the victory.

“We responded well in the first half to the goal we conceded early,” said Evansville head men’s soccer coach Marshall Ray. “Nate (Opperman) and Desmond (Dolphy) both had goals created by their individual effort to push us into the lead. We had two back-to-back chances to put us up 3-1 but did not convert. We had our chance to put the game away and missed it. We gave up the fourth goal chasing the game looking for the equalizer. The guys battled until the final whistle.”
Lipscomb went ahead with a goal in the fifth minute.

Down 1-0, UE answered back with a 13th minute score from senior forward Nate Opperman. Making his first career start, sophomore defender Cameron Gilreath found Opperman who dribbled up the left wing and scored in the upper corner. Opperman’s second goal of the season evened up the match at one.

Evansville then took their first lead in the 19th minute when sophomore forward Desmond Dolphy seized control of a loose ball in front and deposited it for his first goal of the year.

Trailing 2-1, Lipscomb netted the equalizer in the 49th minute and the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute. The Bisons scored one final time in the 85th minute for the 4-1 victory.

Opperman and senior forward Mark Anthony Gonzalez took a team-high two shots each.

The defeat is the eighth consecutive loss for Evansville.
