UE's Oldest Alum to Be Featured on NBC Today Show
|
|
It’s not very often that an institution gets to celebrate the 105th birthday of an alum. We wanted to let the UE family know that we submitted Altha Warren Plane’s birthday to the NBC Today Show to consider for Willard Scott’s section acknowledging 100+ year old birthdays. We have received confirmation this afternoon that barring any major breaking news, natural disaster, or the like, that she will be featured in Willard’s segment this coming Monday, August 15. (Her birthday is the next day). The segment should air between 8 and 10 a.m. in both the eastern time zone and the Evansville television market (it’s just an anomaly of the way the show airs here). Wherever you live, if you want to make certain that you see it, please set your DVRs for the Today Show for the entire 7-10 a.m. time period on Monday. If something happens and the segment is cancelled, they will call University Relations with an updated date and we will pass it on. Cheers to Ace Altha!!

United Way Day of Caring Sign Up Is Underway
|
|
Each year UE supports United Way by allowing employees to volunteer during business hours on the United Way Day of Caring. This year it is Friday, Sept. 9. UE employees who are interested in participating are asked to complete the volunteer form at this link. Employees DO need supervisor approval, but are not required to take leave time to participate. UE will volunteer again this year with Evansville ARC and ARC Industries on several projects. The projects are listed on the volunteer form. Please indicate your preference of projects and we will try to accommodate your choice. UE has been a proud leader in Day of Caring participation in past years. This year President Tom and Dr. Sharon Kazee will be joining our team and they encourage your participation. We would like to have many more volunteers to join us this year!
All Day of Caring workers are invited to an early morning breakfast at the Centre before starting work. Evansville ARC and United Way greatly appreciate your time, hard work, and willingness to serve our community. Thank you!
Please fill out the volunteer form and return it to Brian Conner in Ridgway University Center, room 229, by Aug. 10 (if you want to be able to choose your T-shirt size) and no later than Aug. 29 (your choice of T-shirt size can not be guaranteed).
Dowload the form here, or if you have questions, pelase contact Brian at 1107 or bc32@evansville.edu.

Lights! Camera! Confusing, time-consuming, and expensive... The problem with getting started with online video is that often nothing ever happens past getting started. Time or budget gets in the way, or skill sets don't measure up and the benefits of using consistent, relevant online video are never realized. In this session, pitfalls, common mistakes and best practices to jumpstart your online video strategy and get you on the path to success will be discussed!
The speaker at this event will be Rocky Walls. With more than 10 years experience in digital content creation, as CEO of 12 Stars Media Productions, Walls works with businesses to create video that's so real and simple it changes audiences into relationships. In 2009 he received a nomination for the Most Influential Social Media Up & Comer and in 2010 his company was nominated as Indiana's Most Ethical Company at the Indiana Social Media Summit. An avid networker, Walls is a graduate of the Referral Institute and currently a member of the IBC Chapter of Business Networking International (BNI). He is also one of the first five Honorary Commanders of the 434th Air Refueling Wing at Grissom Air Reserve Base. With the launch of its new service Candidio, 12 Stars Media is on track to see a 400% increase in gross revenue for 2011.

New Office Depot Pricing Structure
|
|
The Office of Administrative Services is pleased to announce a new pricing structure between UE and Office Depot Office Supply that provides greater office supply online discounts effective Monday, Aug. 15.
Users can expect to see
- Greater discounts when ordering “contract” items which include nearly 16,000 products (Core, Non-Core, Generic Core and Generic Non-Core). While levels of discounts will vary on a per item basis, UE’s overall historical spend through Office Depot over the last twelve months has shown that an average of 10- 20% savings is possible over past contractual pricing.
- A couple of online screen changes. First, “contract” items will be clearly identified in the online ordering system. Second, volume order discounts will no longer be available or visible on the bottom of the checkout screen.
- Only pricing changes. Current ordering procedures such as the use of Pcards to place orders and the identification of restricted items and recycled items in the online Office Depot system will remain the same (unchanged).
If you have any questions please contact, Kim Winsett at extension 2941 or email kw83@evansville.edu

PAADS Renewal
|
|
If you have not done so, it is time to renew PAADS (Pre-Approval Authorization for Distribution Services) forms for Fiscal Year 2011-12.
Are you constantly seeking the appropriate signatures for Copy Service Requests and/or In-House Office Supply forms before submitting your request? Avoid the routing hassles by completing and submitting a PAADS form with signature authorizations (per the UE Approval Policy.) This will pre-authorize a requestor of Distribution Services for the fiscal year based on the dollar amount designated, account numbers provided and services requested.
Note: If employee status change (requestors and approvers) during the fiscal year does void a PAADS and a new approved PAADS is required.
The PAADS form and instructions are located on the Copy Services or Central Receiving websites on AceLink Areas. Print and complete a PAADS form, obtain the required authorized signature and submit the form via campus mail to Doris Cook/Distribution Services/GS.
For questions, contact Doris Cook at extension 1067 or email dc47@evansville.edu
