University Organist Emeritus Douglas Reed served as one of three adjudicators for the Regional Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance (RYACOP) at the American Guild of Organists 2015 Great Lakes Region V Convention in Indianapolis on July 10.
RYACOP takes place bi-annually after a preliminary round at local AGO chapters throughout the region. Winners in each AGO region throughout the U.S. will perform as “Rising Stars” at the biennial national convention to be held in Houston next summer.
Over the past three decades, several of Reed’s students have placed in RYACOP and NYACOP, the national level of the AGO competition. In 1984, Matthew Boatmon was a NYACOP finalist in San Francisco. Kirk Rich performed as a “Rising Star” in Minneapolis (2009) and as a RYACOP finalist in Columbus, Ohio (2012). In 2013, Rachel Bennett competed in the RYACOP in Kalamazoo. In 2014, Kirk Rich was one of three finalists in the Boston NYACOP.
The July 10 competition took place at Trinity Episcopal Church, Indianapolis.
