Fire Alarm Testing
|
|
Safety & Security will be conducting sprinkler inspections this week. If you should hear an intermittent alarm go off, you do not have to evacuate the building. If it should be a true alarm, it will not silence after a few minutes. Building coordinators will be notified when we are getting ready to check the sprinkler system.

Architectural Historian William Blair Scott, Jr. Lecture to be held on campus today
|
|
On Thursday, June 11, architectural historian William Blair Scott, Jr. will be speaking at UE about architect William Wesley Peters. He will be discussing Peters' work in Evansville, including the Peters- Margedant House, which will be moving to UE’s campus later this year. The lecture is set for 7 p.m. in Room 251, Eykamp Hall, in Ridgway University Center.
Peters attended Evansville College in the 1920s prior to transferring to MIT and becoming Frank Lloyd Wright’s first Fellow and chief engineer. The house which Peters designed in Evansville in 1934 is a prototype of future Usonian houses that Wright perfected over the next several decades.
Scott is researching a biography of Peters, has written several books on regional architectural history, and is secretary of the Taliesin Fellows. He is also the co-founder of the Organic Architecture + Design Archives.

AED now located in the Ridgway University Center
|
|
The University of Evansville has a number of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) located across campus. They are located as follows:
• Ridgway University Center (main floor near information desk, relocated from Graves Hall)
• Koch Center (second floor near copier)
• Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building, McCurdy Wing (near main entrance)
• Hyde Hall/May Studio Theatre (main floor near elevator)
• Fitness Center lobby (behind main desk)
If you find yourself needing to use one of the campus AEDs, please follow the audible instructions that the machine provides. Also, contacting the Office of Safety and Security for assistance is highly recommended as Safety and Security also carries and AED with them in the Security vehicle. Safety and Security can be reached at its office number of 812-488-2051. Safety and Security’s emergency campus number is 812-471-6911.

College of Engineering and Computer Science Announcements
|
|
The College of Engineering and Computer Science announces the retirement of Tina Newman as the administrative associate to the Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Tina has been with the University since 1984, and had been with the College for 18 years when she retired in March. Tina was responsible for managing the OPTIONS programs, yearly summer camps for high school girls, middle school girls, and middle school boys interested in careers in engineering and computer science, and was dedicated to promoting the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for young women. The College is appreciative of Tina’s many years of service and wishes her well in her retirement.
Kimberly Higgins has been hired as the assistant to the Dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Science and will serve as OPTIONS Coordinator. Kimberly was formerly employed by the University as an administrative assistant in the Departments of Foreign Languages, Philosophy & Religion, and Archaeology & Art History, and was more recently employed as a legal administrator for Olsen & White, LLP. The College welcomed Kimberly back to campus on June 1st.

UE Men's Soccer Player Nick Schroeder Named a MVC Postgraduate Scholar

The University of Evansville Athletics Department is proud to announce that men’s soccer player Nick Schroeder was named a Postgraduate Scholar by the Missouri Valley Conference on Wednesday. The honor is bestowed upon MVC Student Athletes for their exemplary academic and athletic performances. Schroeder will also receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship from the Conference.
Schroeder is one of four MVC Student Athletes to earn the recognition including Brooke Brown of UNI (women’s basketball), Kalyn Harker of Southern Illinois (softball) and Brogan Austin of Drake (cross country, track & field).
This honor comes just weeks after Schroeder also received a $7,500 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship as well.
Schroeder plans to use the scholarships to pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
A Pre-Physical Therapy major from Brighton, Michigan, Schroeder has a 3.960 GPA. He recorded his first goal as a freshman vs. Indiana. As a sophomore, Schroeder won the inaugural Heritage Federal Credit Union scholarship, was an MVC Scholar Athlete First Team honoree and All-MVC Second Team. Nick has appeared in 58 games, making 25 starts, with eight goals and three assists. Off the field, Schroeder was active in the Evansville community as a mentor, coach and volunteer throughout his four years on campus.

Kevin Kaczmarski Named NCBWA All-American

University of Evansville senior Kevin Kaczmarski was named an All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and was also recognized as All-Midwest Region by ABCA / Rawlings on Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, Kaczmarski was selected by the New York Mets in the 9th round (269th pick overall) in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.
The UE outfielder leads all Division I baseball players in batting average (.465), triples (nine), and triples per game (0.20). He is also second in the nation in on-base percentage (.543), second in slugging percentage (.746), fifth in runs batted in per game (1.24), 20th in doubles per game (0.21) and 25th in total bases (138).
A Cary, Ill. native, Kaczmarski led the Purple Aces this season in batting average (.465), hits (86), doubles (19), triples (nine), home runs (five), runs batted in (57), total bases (138), slugging percentage (.746), on-base percentage (.543), stolen bases (13), and fielding percentage (1.000).
His .465 batting average is the highest in single season program history. Kaczmarski’s nine triples are second most for a Purple Ace and his 86 hits are eighth highest.
Kaczmarski was the Missouri Valley Conference’s Joe Carter Player of the Year this season, the first Purple Ace in program history to receive the honor. He was also named First Team All-Conference, and selected to the MVC All-Defensive Team this spring. A three-time MVC Player of the Week this season, Kaczmarski was also named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week (Apr. 28). He is on the Dick Howser Trophy Watch List, a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist, a Louisville Slugger First Team All-American and one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.
In his career, Kaczmarski finished his time at UE second in doubles (66) and triples (22), fourth in runs batted in (171), fifth in batting average (.352), sixth in runs (169), and seventh in at-bats (841).

Three UE Baseball Players Recognized as 2015 MVC Scholar-Athletes

The Cary, Ill. native was also named First Team All-Conference, and selected to the MVC All-Defensive Team this spring. A three-time MVC Player of the Week this season, Kaczmarski was also named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week (Apr. 28). Billo recorded a team-high seven wins this season with a team-low 3.38 earned run average. The Orland Park, Ill. native has appeared in 19 games, making 12 starts. Billo yielded just 17 walks in a team-leading 82.2 innings pitched. The redshirt senior guided UE to an 11 game winning streak in mid-week contests. Half of Billo's 12 starts were quality starts. He held the seventh most innings pitched and wins in the MVC and the ninth lowest ERA.
In the classroom, Billo holds a 3.70 cumulative GPA in special education. This is his first MVC Scholar Athlete honor.
Ramon, a junior infielder from Jackson Heights, N.Y., led the Aces with five home runs this season. His 59 hits, 14 doubles, three triples, 48 runs batted in, 13 hit by pitches and .485 slugging percentage all rank second on the team. Ramon finished fourth in the MVC in RBIs. He tallied 17 multi-hit and 13 multi-RBI games this season.
In the classroom, Ramon has recorded a 3.74 cumulative GPA in communications. This is his first MVC Scholar Athlete honor.
Kaczmarski was one of 14 players selected to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team, which was selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors. In order to be eligible for the recognition, student-athletes must have a cumulative 3.2 GPA or higher, be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing and meet certain playing requirements.
