The University of Evansville women's basketball team had three players selected to All-Missouri Valley Conference teams, as announced by the league office Wednesday. Freshman Sara Dickey was named to the All-MVC First Team, junior Mallory Ladd was selected as an All-MVC Honorable Mention and freshman Dakota Weatherford earned a spot on the MVC All-Freshman Team.
Dickey is the first Evansville player to be named to the All-MVC First Team since Rebekah Parker in 2008, became just the second freshman in the history of the MVC to score 500 or more points in a single season and currently ranks fourth on UE's single-season scoring list. The Montezuma, Ind., native ranks second in the MVC in scoring at 18.0 points per game and third in the league in three-pointers per game at 1.8. Dickey has scored in double figures in 28 of Evansville's 29 games this season, including 10 20-point efforts. The freshman guard was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week five times this season.
Ladd is averaging 11.7 points per game, which ranks 17th in the MVC, and is the conference' second-leading rebounding at 9.3 boards per contest. The junior forward is shooting 42.9 percent from the field this season and ranks fifth in the MVC in free throw percentage with an 81.4 percent clip. The Evansville native has posted eight double-doubles this season and scored in double figures 14 times, despite missing six games this season due to injury.
Weatherford averaged 6.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for the Aces this season and led the squad with 63 steals and 104 assists, which ranked her third and fifth in the MVC in those categories, respectively. The Arcadia, Ind., native also ranked third in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 1.5 ratio. Weatherford tallied five or more assists in eight contests in her debut season and recorded four or more steals seven times.
