The Neu Chapel Office of Religious Life in cooperation with the Neu Chapel Society announce NOON PRAYER @ NEU: MEDITATION WITH MUSIC for Thursday, January 16, at 12:10 in Neu Chapel. The 40-minute service of music, silence, and the spoken word provides a time of contemplation, reflection, and inspiration for University of Evansville students, faculty, staff, and the larger community.
Music will be presented by Robert Nicholls, organist/director of music of First Presbyterian Church, Evansville. Robert was born in Cambridge, England to a British farmer and American mother from Carmi, Illinois. At the age of eight, he joined the choristers of Westminster Abbey in London under the direction of Simon Preston. He graduated from the Oundle School, and after a gap-year during which he studied organ at the University of Evansville, he earned two music degrees from Cambridge University where he sang tenor as a member of the choirs of Gonville and Caius and St. John’s Colleges. In 1996, he joined the staff of First Presbyterian Church where he directs the Wide Awake Worship band and the Royal School of Church Music affiliated choir, and plays the Fisk organ, Op. 98. In 2012, he won first place in the American Guild of Organists National Competition in Organ Improvisation.
