Upcoming Events

* Baccalaureate Service This Saturday

There will be a Baccalareate Service on Saturday at 10 a.m., in Neu Chapel. UE seniors, families, and community are invited to attend. The service will include a bagpipe processional with pipe organ, the University Choir,  jazz piano with percussion and bass guitar.  Words will be offered from University President Thomas Kazee. The University Chaplain will be preaching on 'Navigating the Future'. The service will last about an hour. All are welcome.
 

 
* Spring Commencement Set for Saturday, May 7

Spring Commencement 2011 is set for Saturday, May 7 in Roberts Stadium. Student Robing begins at 12:30 p.m, and Faculty Robing is at 1 p.m. The Commencement Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.

There will be a Baccalaureate Service at 10 a.m. on campus in Neu Chapel.

Graduates - if you have family and friends who will be unable to attend the event, let them know that the ceremony will be streamed live at http://www.evansville.edu/commencement/live.cfm

 


 

 
* UE Bookstore Open on Graduation Day

The UE Bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Graduation Day, May 7, for any last minute needs or purchases.  Graduates should make sure they try on their cap and gowns before graduation to make sure everything fits.  If you have any questions about any gowns you purchased from the Bookstore please contact the Bookstore at ext. 2679

Congratulations

* Stahlhut Earnds Academic All District Honors

University of Evansville softball player Jen Stahlhut has earned Capital One Academic All-District second team honors, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) today.

Capping off her senior season, Stahlhut leads the Aces in nearly every offensive category, hitting .342 from the left side with 13 doubles, four home runs and 23 runs batted in. The outfielder owns the sixth-best on base percentage in the Missouri Valley Conference (.429) and is tied for first in the Valley for total doubles. Stahlhut currently sits in third place in UE?s all-time record books with 49 career doubles, just seven two-baggers away from breaking the top record.

A member of the 2011 preseason All-MVC team, Stahlhut has appeared in all but three games in her career and has started in every game from 2009-11. She is the only Purple Ace to have started in every game so far this season.

The Troy, Ill., native is a two-time all-MVC selection, earning first-team recognition in 2009. She was also named to the all-tournament team in 2010 upon the completion of her junior campaign.

A 2010 MVC Scholar-Athlete pick, Stahlhut holds a 3.71 GPA and is currently pursuing her master?s degree in health service administration. 

 
* The Department of Biology Announces Seniors Attending Graduate School

The Department of Biology is pleased to announce that graduating seniors Amy Johnson, Kylie McNeill, Adam Dillman and Ryan Oesterle will be attending graduate school in Fall 2011.

Amy Johnson has been accepted to the Human Skeletal Biology Masters program at New York University.  Amy conducted two years of summer research under the supervision of Drs. Brian Ernsting and Dale Edwards.  She presented the results of her research findings at MESCON and the Butler Undergraduate Research Conference.  She is also a co-author of a peer-reviewed scientific paper.

Kylie McNeil will attend the University of Louisville working on her doctorate degree Microbiology and Immunology. Kylie did research with Dr. Mark Davis for two years and presented her work at MESCON and the National Conference for Undergraduate Research (NCUR).  She has a paper in preparation.

Adam Dillman will be attending Vanderbilt University, pursuing a doctoral degree in the Chemical and Physical Biology program. Adam conducted research with Dr. John Stamm in the Physics department for two summers and presented papers at MESCON and NCUR.

Ryan Oesterle will pursue a Masters degree in Secondary Education from Arizona State University. His goal is to become a high school biology teacher and still be be involved with baseball and the high school level. Ryan was extensively involved in the UE garden project for two years.

 

 
* Margaret McMullan Lectures on Writing Historical Fiction

Professor of English Margaret McMullan spoke in Chicago, Ill., at The Contemporary Club on April 29 about writing historical fiction. She will also speak on this same subject in Indianapolis at Beth-El Zedeck Temple for the Writer's Center of Indiana's Clowes Craft Lecture Series on May 7.
