University of Evansville head men’s soccer coach Mike Jacobs unveiled the Purple Aces’ 2013 schedule Wednesday afternoon. The Aces will play 18 regular-season matches, highlighted by a contest against defending national champion Indiana.
“The 2013 schedule gives us the opportunity to measure our team against the best competition available, both regionally and nationally,” Jacobs said. “Playing stiff competition in our non-conference slate prepares us for the rigors of the always challenging Missouri Valley Conference. The Valley is one of the top conferences in college soccer, and we know that this 2013 season will be no different.”
Evansville will play a pair of exhibition matches against Belmont and Indianapolis, before opening its regular season Aug. 30 at the Bradley Tournament. The Aces will travel to Belmont for a 5 p.m. exhibition contest Aug. 23, before hosting the Greyhounds Aug. 25 at 5 p.m.
In Peoria, UE will open its regular season against New Hampshire, before wrapping up the weekend with a tilt against Massachusetts on Sept. 1.
Evansville will participate in its second tournament in as many weekends, when it travels to the Cincinnati Tournament Sept. 6-8. The Aces will open the weekend with a match against Northern Illinois (Sept. 6), before taking on host Cincinnati (Sept. 8).
UE will welcome 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Saint Louis to Arad McCutchan Stadium for its home opener Sept. 11 at 7 p.m., before hosting Georgia State in a 7 p.m. tilt on Sept. 14.
Evansville will then host its annual ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic, which will be conducted Sept. 20 and Sept. 22. The Aces will open the two-day event with a 7:30 p.m. match against NJIT Friday night, before wrapping up the tournament Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against Eastern Illinois.
UE will continue its six-game home stand by hosting BIG EAST member Butler Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. and will open MVC play by welcoming Drake to McCutchan Stadium Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
Evansville will be back on the road for a pair of matches at Kentucky (Oct. 8) and Loyola (Oct. 12), before returning to its home pitch to host Missouri State (Oct. 19). Following their match with the Bears, the Aces will be on the road for four-straight contests, including tilts with defending national champion Indiana (Oct. 23), Central Arkansas (Oct. 26), Lipscomb (Oct. 29) and SIU Edwardsville (Nov. 2).
UE will close the season by hosting Bradley (Nov. 9), before heading back to Peoria for the MVC Tournament that will be hosted by the Braves Nov. 13-17.
